Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Alfinski (ranked 5104 p4p, 407 weight class) and John Rock (ranked 5098 p4p, 406 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jerry Alfinski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Rock!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rock closes this distance looking for a takedown but Alfinski circles away.
Alfinski avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Good standup being displayed there by Alfinski as he connects with a hook.

and Rock counters with a takedown into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lull in the action here as Rock stalls from top position.
Rock's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Alfinski's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

More stalling from Rock.
It looks like Rock might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rock is continuing to stall.
The adventures of Rock the control monster continue. Boring.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rock fails to land the takedown.
Alfinski catches Rock with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Rock keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Alfinski.
Rock drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Alfinski defends it well.

Rock manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Alfinski on his heels. He'll look to pass Alfinski's guard now, I'm sure.

Rock slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Let's hope that Rock has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rock feints and as Alfinski raises his hands in defense, Rock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Rock dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jab, jab by Alfinski - just one landing.
Alfinski throws a body punch but Rock moves out of range.
Rock with a poor takedown
and Alfinski counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Rock tries to clinch
and Alfinski counters with a two punch combo.
Alfinski ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rock moves away.
Rock now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rock is trying hard to land a takedown here. Alfinski sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A little feinted left hand from Alfinski on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Alfinski lands with a right hand.
Alfinski connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Rock momentarily.

Alfinski throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rock tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
John Rock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alfinski stuffs the takedown attempt from Rock. Rock gets slowly back to his feet.
Alfinski was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Jerry Alfinski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Rock.
Rock slips under a jab from Alfinski.
Rock appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Jerry Alfinski is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rock closes the distance and clinches up with Alfinski, looking for a takedown. Rock pushes Alfinski against the cage but Alfinski circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Alfinski could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Alfinski connects with a single shot there.

Rock doesn't manage to clinch there - Alfinski circles away.
Alfinski is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rock can do to turn this around?
Rock tries to move into range but Alfinski moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Rock throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Alfinski tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rock is in Alfinski's guard.
Alfinski is looking to stand back up but Rock counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Alfinski.

Alfinski on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Alfinski tries to get out of the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rock in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alfinski trying to hold on to Rock's head to control him but Rock postures up.

Rock perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Rock wants to free his trapped foot but Alfinski is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rock in particular looking to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Alfinski tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Rock controlling the action here.
Rock passes the guard and advances to mount!
Rock controlling his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Alfinski dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rock.
Alfinski tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rock was well out of range. Poor timing from Alfinski.

Rock needs to keep his hands up - Alfinski had a free shot at his head there.
Rock shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alfinski but Alfinski pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Rock content to control rather than advance.

Rock uses his free foot to push down on Alfinski's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Alfinski.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
