Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oleg Popov (ranked 4923 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Batista (ranked 3708 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigo Batista will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Rodrigo Batista!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Popov shoots for a double leg takedown but Batista sprawls well. He's pushed Popov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Batista will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Popov ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Batista shoots in but no luck this time.
Popov thinks about countering with a head kick.
Batista looks winded!
Popov tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Popov shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Batista eats them both and turns towards Popov to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Batista stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Batista wants it to stay on the feet.

Popov looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Batista leaves Popov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Popov tries to close the distance and clinch but Batista swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Popov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Batista keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Batista wants to control but Popov is keeping busy.
Popov works his foot free and advances to mount.

Batista throws a strike but Popov avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Popov is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Batista's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Well Popov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
