PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rumble Johnson (ranked 4419 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Olmos (ranked 4397 p4p, 0 weight class). Olmos has chosen Tres Avisos as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rumble Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carlos Olmos!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Johnson fails in his attempt to clinch.
Olmos avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Olmos lunges at Johnson with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Johnson's hand.

Johnson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Olmos did well to prevent Johnson getting side control.
Olmos is controlling Johnson's trapped leg to prevent Johnson from advancing to side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Olmos is looking to improve his position.
Johnson is controlling the pace.

Johnson has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Olmos works to full guard.
Johnson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Johnson won't allow Olmos to sweep him here.

Olmos has control of Johnson's left arm, preventing Johnson from doing any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Olmos has momentary wrist control but Johnson slips an elbow through the middle.
Johnson trying to control but Olmos is working from the bottom.

Johnson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Olmos looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Olmos looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Olmos!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The strikes coming from Olmos are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Johnson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Johnson struggling a bit here.

Olmos remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Olmos taking a breather here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Olmos trying to control the position but Johnson is working away.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Johnson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Olmos misses with a double jab.
Good shot there by Olmos.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Johnson scoring well with a low kick there.
Johnson is looking to chop away at Olmos's legs.
Olmos misses with a straight left.
Johnson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Johnson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Olmos circles away.
Johnson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Johnson feinted with a counter takedown.
Johnson takes one to the side of the head.
Johnson looks to land a combination. Olmos sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson gets to his feet - Olmos follows without any prompting.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Olmos is trying to escape back to his feet but Johnson uses the scramble to pass into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Olmos wants to control but Johnson postures up.

Johnson stands up.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown but Olmos manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Johnson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
A left lands for Olmos.
Olmos tests Johnson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
No joy there for Olmos, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Olmos scores with a hook.


Johnson is rocked!
Carlos Olmos seems to be getting the better of the standup.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Olmos cracks Johnson on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Johnson falls backwards against the cage. Olmos follows up with more strikes that drop Johnson to his knees. Olmos keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Johnson! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carlos Olmos!
A relieved looking Carlos Olmos thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
