Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Magnus Thoressen (ranked 1429 p4p, 167 weight class) and David Yung (ranked 1788 p4p, 205 weight class). Yung has chosen 陳小春 - 亂世巨星 as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Magnus Thoressen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Yung!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thoressen wants to slow Yung down by chopping away at his legs.
Yung connects with a solid leg kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Thoressen. That's going to slow Yung down.
Yung connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Thoressen momentarily.
Danga de danga de dang - Yung scores with a four punch combination!
Yung wants to slow Thoressen down by chopping away at his legs.
Thoressen avoids a punch combination nicely.
A big left from Thoressen misses.
Yung swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thoressen looking to land some kicks to the body here.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Yung moves out of range of the body kick from Thoressen.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Yung has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Yung throws out a loose jab but Thoressen uses good head movement to avoid it.

Thoressen defending well as Yung loads up on a big left hand.
Thoressen tries to land a front kick but Yung steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Yung steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Thoressen.
Thoressen moves away from the strike by Yung.

Yung is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Thoressen's half guard.
Thoressen wants to control but Yung is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yung thows a huge punch but Thoressen dodges it nicely.
Yung is trying to control. Thoressen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Yung wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thoressen keeps working.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thoressen is squirming around, avoiding Yung's attempts to control the action.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Yung working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Thoressen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Yung on the ground.
Thoressen keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Yung punishing his opponent with strikes.
Yung controlling the pace for now.
Thoressen is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Yung trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Yung is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Yung is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Thoressen can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Yung jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Thoressen is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Thoressen and Yung has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Yung wants to control but Thoressen is keeping him busy.

Yung tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Yung lands a decent elbow from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Yung dominated that round.

Thoressen just misses with a punch to the body.
Yung dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Yung swinging wildly here.
Yung takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Thoressen takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Yung misses with an uppercut
and Thoressen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Yung has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Yung moves in looking to clinch but Thoressen pushes him off.
Good work by Yung as he checks the leg kick.
Thoressen tries to score with a low kick but Yung moves his leg out of the way.
Thoressen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thoressen chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Yung can pounce on him.
Thoressen's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Yung connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Thoressen scrambles back to his feet.
Thoressen throws a head kick that misses.
We've been told by Thoressen's head coaches at Ryōzanpaku Dojo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Thoressen throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
David Yung seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Yung throws the left hand but Thoressen avoids the punch easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yung walks into a jab.

Thoressen walks into a straight right hand from Yung.
Yung throws out a powerful jab.
Thoressen scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Yung tries to clinch up but Thoressen circles away and keeps his distance.
Thoressen lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Thoressen avoids the body shot from Yung.
Thoressen throws a quick counter kick to the body but Yung avoids it.
Thoressen throws a low kick but Yung moves out of range easily.

Thoressen buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Yung is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Thoressen's half guard.
Well, if Yung is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Yung is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Thoressen defends it well.

Let's hope that Yung has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Yung not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Yung in particular looking to stall.
Yung trying to control the action but Thoressen is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Thoressen goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Thoressen misses with a straight left.
Yung looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Thoressen throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Yung looks to land a left hand but Thoressen moved out of range nicely.
Thoressen moves out of range of the leg kick from Yung.
Yung takes a swing at Thoressen's ribcage but misses.
Thoressen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Yung circles away quickly and effectively.
Thoressen attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
A slow jab from Yung misses its intended target.
Yung scores with a hook to the body. Thoressen takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Thoressen thuds his right hand into Yung's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Yung lands with a straight right. Thoressen didn't see that one coming.
Thoressen's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Yung connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Thoressen scrambles back to his feet.
Thoressen does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Yung looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but David Yung will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Nice sprawl there from Thoressen as Yung shoots in.
Thoressen is looking to score with low kicks.
Yung walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Yung scores with a jab to the head.
Yung shoots in for a takedown but Thoressen shows good takedown defense.
Thoressen was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Yung tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Thoressen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Thoressen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Yung stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Thoressen lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Yung backwards.

Yung stalling in the clinch but Thoressen improves position.
Yung avoiding damage as Thoressen throws knees to the body.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Still in the clinch, Thoressen scores with a nice short uppercut.
Thoressen landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Yung lands a body punch.

Thoressen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Thoressen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Yung was well out of range. Poor timing from Thoressen.
Thoressen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Thoressen goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Yung is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Thoressen connects with a solid leg kick.
Thoressen swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Magnus Thoressen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Yung tries to clinch up but Thoressen circles away and keeps his distance.
Yung fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Thoressen manages to avoid it.
Thoressen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

enabling Thoressen to counter with a crisp jab.

Thoressen lands with a kick to the temple. Yung shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

David Yung seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A solid leg kick lands there for Thoressen.
Thoressen throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Yung closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Thoressen ducks right into an uppercut from Yung.
Yung takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Thoressen tries to move into range but Yung moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Thoressen connects with a leg kick. Yung looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yung. Thoressen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Yung digs a good body shot into Thoressen's ribs.
Thoressen misses with a low kick as Yung jumps back.
Thoressen misses with a wild body shot.
Some bone on bone action there as Yung checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Yung finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Yung lunges at Thoressen with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Thoressen's hand.

Yung changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thoressen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Yung moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Yung wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thoressen keeps working.

Yung in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Yung looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Thoressen is avoiding damage well.
Thoressen is letting Yung control him for a moment.
Yung working the ground and pound.
Yung happy to just control the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Magnus Thoressen.
I think Yung has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
