Undercard bout

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shiro Tanaka (ranked 4417 p4p, 208 weight class) and Zhang Jun (ranked 4266 p4p, 205 weight class). Tanaka comes to the cage accompanied by The good the bad and the ugly theme song. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zhang Jun!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jun jabs Tanaka right on the nose. Tanaka blinks but takes it well.
Jun pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Jun misses with the combination.
Jun throws a big shot that misses.
Tanaka feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Tanaka misses with a shot to the body
and Jun makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Tanaka uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jun.
Jun misses with a left hand
and Tanaka counters with a three punch combo that has Jun backing up. Jun nods at Tanaka to acknowledge the strikes.
Jun throws a body punch but Tanaka moves out of range.
Jun ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Jun misses the shot to the body.
Tanaka is looking for a counter combo.
Jun has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Jun walks into a stiff left hand from Tanaka.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tanaka is looking to clinch but Jun is avoiding it.

The fight stays on the outside here - Tanaka looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jun feints a jab promting Tanaka to slip. Jun then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Tanaka slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

It looks like Shiro Tanaka has been cut.

Jun darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Jun throws a lazy right hand but Tanaka sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tanaka fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tanaka takes one on the button.

and Jun counters with a right hand to the body.
Tanaka misses with a jab to the body
and Jun cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Jun lands a big right hand that sends Tanaka crashing to the mat! Jun stays standing though and waves Tanaka back to his feet!

Tanaka is rocked!
Tanaka walks straight into a right hand from Jun - that's dropped him! Jun jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Tanaka from any more punishment! Tanaka complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dukes connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Ivanov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dukes.

Dukes is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ivanov's half guard.

Dukes is looking for a kimura but Ivanov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dukes to get the leverage.
Ivanov told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Ivanov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dukes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marchrius Rossi (ranked 1249 p4p, 154 weight class) and Lusmu Kutvonen (ranked 1875 p4p, 218 weight class). Rossi's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Metal Slug Theme. Lusmu Kutvonen told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Rossi has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Rossi and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
