These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kimbors tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Smith.
Smith misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kimbors.

Smith has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kimbors uses from the top position.
Kimbors stops Smith from standing up.
Smith is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Smith is looking for a sweep. Kimbors is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kimbors will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kimbors cracks Smith with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kimbors cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Smith really wants to buck Kimbors off and get back to his feet.
Smith wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Kimbors is landing with strikes. Smith can't take much more of this.
Kimbors is hanging on to Smith's back as he tries to escape.
Kimbors lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.

Smith takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Smith swats away the attempt to clinch by Kimbors.
Arturs Kimbors is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Smith tries to pull guard but Kimbors won't allow it.
Smith gets underhooks to prevent Kimbors's takedown attempt.
Kimbors really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kimbors is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kimbors.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kimbors.
Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Kimbors sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kimbors goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Kimbors closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Kimbors pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arturs Kimbors. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kimbors moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kimbors but Kimbors pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Smith counters by moving into the clinch.

Smith is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kimbors gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kimbors swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Kimbors manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kimbors looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Smith! But no joy.

Kimbors thumps Smith with a low kick.

Kimbors gets tackled into the cage by Smith. Smith maintains the clinch.

Kimbors pulls guard effortlessly.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kimbors is on top in guard.

Kimbors is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?
Kimbors is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kimbors. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kimbors has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Smith can't keep his opponent in guard - Kimbors advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kimbors takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horrible takedown attempt by Kimbors or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith, which made it look bad.

Kimbors gets a double leg takedown into Smith's guard.

Smith looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Kimbors thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Smith working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kimbors.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kimbors not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Smith has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kimbors is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Smith.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kimbors has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Kimbors misses with a low kick.
Kimbors throws a sloppy head kick and Smith moves out of range easily.

Kimbors closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.

Arturs Kimbors overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kimbors attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Smith is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Kimbors tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Smith defends well and Kimbors ends up having to push Smith into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kimbors misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kimbors has Smith pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kimbors pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Smith tumbling to the mat - Kimbors dives into Smith's guard.
Smith is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Kimbors dives into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.


Kimbors wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.

Smith is trying to escape the position but Kimbors is controlling the position.

Kimbors tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kimbors has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
A lull in the action here as Kimbors stalls from top position.
We've been hearing good reports from Kimbors's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Smith is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kimbors connects with a decent elbow.
