And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Micheal Bates!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates cracks Fairchild with an open hand slap.

Fairchild went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

I was talking to Fairchild's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Fairchild is pressed up against the cage. Bates has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Fairchild down to the mat. Fairchild avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

He's trying desperately to grab hold of Bates around the waist but Bates pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Bates is the winner by TKO! Bates jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Baba wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Walker manages to pass to side control.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Walker connects with a nice short shot to Baba's temple.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barras shoots in looking for a takedown. Fairchild tries to sprawl out of it but Barras keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fairchild manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Fairchild tries to counter by clinching up but Barras breaks away and moves out of range.

Fairchild decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fairchild seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Fairchild will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Matt Weston decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Eildon Heap spoke after the fight, saying 'I'm so handome I'm not surprised this guy was all over me!!'.
