Sarmiento throws a series of punches but Smith moves out of range.
Sarmiento fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Sarmiento throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith throws a head kick that Sarmiento semi-blocks.
Smith throws a series of punches but Sarmiento avoids them all with ease.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sarmiento has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Sarmiento has hold of one of Smith's legs. Smith is fighting the takedown attempt but Sarmiento gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sarmiento lands with a punch from half guard.

Sarmiento looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sarmiento lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sarmiento.

Sarmiento ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.
Smith throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Sarmiento's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Smith dives in looking to finish as Sarmiento flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Smith's strikes! Smith is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Sarmiento's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Sarmiento was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

A very excited looking Conor Smith made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.

We've been hearing that Gombrowicz has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Gombrowicz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gombrowicz is standing up over Makarev. Makarev looks to escape but Gombrowicz dives into side control.

Gombrowicz seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Makarev for as long as he can get away with.

Gombrowicz is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Makarev's shoulder. That is not cool.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Makarev is trying to control Gombrowicz's posture but Gombrowicz avoids it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Gombrowicz.
Makarev is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Gombrowicz jumps into side control!

Lakes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jebb tries to avoid it but Lakes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jebb to the ground. Jebb escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lakes.
Jebb throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Lakes's head.
Lakes shoots and misses
and Jebb makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Zedd Jebb has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JJ Lakes.
Jebb lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Jebb is looking to stand up but Lakes won't let him.
Jebb distracts Lakes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Lakes has his foot on Jebb's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jebb works his way back into a safe position though.

Lakes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jebb defends well.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Lakes crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Jebb - the referee stops the clock and Lakes gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Jebb. Lakes manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Jebb lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Jebb buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Jebb fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Lakes on the side of the head.
Lakes throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Jebb counters with an outside leg kick.
Jebb throws a body punch but Lakes moves out of range.
Lakes goes for a double leg but Jebb avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jebb continues to drive forward.

Jebb sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Lakes to the ground! Jebb dives into full mount looking to finish!
Lakes is still in real trouble! Can Jebb finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jebb is landing with some decent strikes but Lakes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Jebb cracks Lakes with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jebb postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Lakes badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Jebb around the waist but Jebb pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Jebb is the winner by TKO! Jebb jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

The fighters circle momentarily. Luther darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
