Froyd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brice avoids it really well and circles away.

Froyd fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brice, pushing him back against the cage.
Brice is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Froyd pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Leary bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Drake's head.
Drake fails to land the takedown.
O Leary misses with a two punch combination.
O Leary digs a good body shot into Drake's ribs.

O Leary darts in and clinches Drake up against the cage.

It looks like Gavin Drake has been cut.
O Leary has Drake pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Drake is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from O Leary - that's hurt Drake badly! Oh, another knee lands and Drake is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Drake doesn't seem to be complaining.

Gracie kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is orion. Royce Gracie had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dean lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Dean scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Gracie is looking to chop away at Dean's legs.
Dean scores with a hook to the body. Gracie takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Dean lands a slapping body shot.
Dean misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gracie shoots in but Dean avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dean throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gracie.
Dean throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gracie shoots for a takedown but Dean saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dean fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Dean throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Dean scoring well with a low kick there.
Gracie misses with a body kick.
Gracie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dean sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gracie somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Royce Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dean throws and low kick but Gracie moves out of range easily.
Dean lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

A jab lands there for Dean.
Dean throws a nice inside leg kick.

Dean feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dean is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Dean is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gracie preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dean doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dean manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Dean slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Dean has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Dean tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gracie knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Dean is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Dean performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Dean's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, if Dean is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dean winds up and cracks Gracie with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Dean is working for a kimura but Gracie is defending it quite comfortably.
Dean slips a nice elbow through Gracie's hands, connecting with Gracie's forehead.
Dean is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Dean content just to control the position here.
Let's hope that Dean has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dean wants to control the pace but Gracie is squirming around nicely.

Gracie is bucking up trying to escape but Dean cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Dean turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Dean tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Gracie takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Gracie has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Royce Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dean's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Dean duly obliges.

Royce Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dean cracks the inside of Gracie's front leg.

Dean shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gracie napping and manages to drive through into side control!
