That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gareth Johns .

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tabarik Maisumov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Pale Monster!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monster goes for a double leg but Maisumov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Maisumov continues to drive forward.

Monster manages to pull guard.
Maisumov wants to get up but he can't break Monster's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Maisumov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Monster is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Monster had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Maisumov defends it easily.
Maisumov trying to stand up but can't free himself from Monster's guard.

Maisumov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Monster manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Monster fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maisumov, pushing him back against the cage.

Monster is pushing down on Maisumov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Maisumov is fighting to maintain full guard but Monster has managed to sneak the leg through.

Monster is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Monster is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Monster is nestled in close to Maisumov, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Pale Monster showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Maisumov throws a head kick that misses.
Maisumov slips a jab and a cross from Monster.
Maisumov moves in looking to clinch but Monster pushes him off.
Monster ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Monster throws out a loose jab but Maisumov uses good head movement to avoid it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Monster. Maisumov does a little dance to reset his feet.

Monster scores with a one two! Maisumov had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Maisumov tries to clinch up but Monster circles away and keeps his distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Monster is defended easily by Maisumov.
Maisumov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Monster throws a hook but Maisumov avoids it easily.
Monster comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Monster throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Maisumov.

Monster shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Monster was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Monster postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Monster tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Monster has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Monster in side control, throwing shots but Maisumov defends.

Monster swings around for an armbar but Maisumov sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Monster's guard.

Monster throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Maisumov escapes and throws Monster's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Monster takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Monster is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Maisumov stands up.
No joy there for Monster, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Monster throws a hook but Maisumov avoids it easily.

Maisumov gets tackled into the cage by Monster. Monster maintains the clinch.

Monster has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Maisumov uses from the top position.

Monster is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Monster isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Maisumov stacks Monster on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Maisumov!

Maisumov is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Pale Monster is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Monster shoots in and drives through. Maisumov sprawls well.

Pale Monster comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Monster has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
