The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sherk throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Tanaka was covering up waiting for the punch and Sherk finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Sherk trying to control but Tanaka is working from the bottom.
Tanaka looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sherk is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sherk loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dave Sherk wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sherk shoots for a double leg takedown but Tanaka sprawls well. He's pushed Sherk's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sherk wants to take the fight to the mat but Tanaka manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Tanaka throws out a loose jab but Sherk uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sherk shoots in but no luck this time.
Tanaka dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tanaka throws a shot from downtown. Sherk moves away and avoids it.
Tanaka swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tanaka throws a body punch but Sherk moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sherk.
Tanaka throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

A head kick misses from Sherk.
Sherk avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Tanaka. Sherk does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tanaka bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Tanaka avoids the head kick by Sherk.
Sherk shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tanaka sprawls well. Tanaka wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sherk gets slowly back to his feet.
Tanaka throws a body punch but Sherk moves out of range.

Sherk does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Sherk shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Tanaka eats them both and turns towards Sherk to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

It looks like Dave Sherk has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tanaka swinging wildly here.

Tanaka gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sherk wants to pass the guard but Tanaka is keeping the position.
Tanaka is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sherk wants to control from the top but Tanaka keeps moving.

That was a close round but I would say that Dave Sherk will probably get the nod.

Hemingway loses concentration momentarily and Kothciushco pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Hemingway crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Kothciushco finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Noel throws a good cross that connects.

Noel finds Cortega's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Cortega flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Noel lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Cortega will be OK.
