Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Status!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Millar!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Millar fails to land with a series of punches.
Status thows a leg kick but Millar checks it

and Millar counters by moving into the clinch.
Status lands a right hand that snaps the head of Millar backwards.
Status drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Status lands a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Status's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Status passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Status tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Millar sneaks back into half guard.
Millar flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Status works his foot free and advances to mount.
Status with the ground and pound from mount.
Status with a couple of short strikes.
Millar is working to get back to half guard.
Status lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Status looking to control but Millar is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Millar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Status. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Status working for a guillotine from mount but Millar is in no mood to give up.

Status has control of Millar's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Millar regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Millar tries to hold on but Status pushes him away.
Millar is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Millar wants to control but Status is having none of it.
Millar is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Status fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Status lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Status postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Millar looks a forlorn figure.
A big strike lands for Status! That's really hurt Millar and he's turned his back - Status keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Status jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Cleo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Martinez counters with a single leg into guard. Cleo didn't expect that.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Cleo is looking for a triangle but Martinez pushes his legs off easily.
Martinez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ricardo Martinez.

These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Yaqqut tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fantuzzi swivels and escapes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fantuzzi enables Yaqqut to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fantuzzi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Fantuzzi controls Yaqqut momentarily but Yaqqut frees himself.
