Mattus feints and as Hammer raises his hands in defense, Mattus changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hammer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mattus is controlling him.
Hammer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mattus postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Mattus prevents Hammer from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mattus is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Zed dips to his left and cracks Richards with an uppercut!
Richards slips a jab and a cross from Zed.

A shot to the body from Zed misses
and Richards counters with a slapping leg kick.
Richards moves out of range of the body kick from Zed.
Zed tried to score with a low kick but Richards checks it.
Richards scores with a head kick. Zed tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Zed thows a body kick. Richards tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Richards slips under a jab from Zed.
Zed gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Richards finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Zed is breathing heavily.
A shot to the body from Zed misses
and Richards makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Zed thows a leg kick but Richards checks it

and Richards moves into the clinch.
Richards lands with a short shot to the head.
Richards prevents a body shot from Zed.
Zed misses with some punches.
Richards lands a right hand that snaps the head of Zed backwards.
Richards blocks an uppercut.
Richards gets through Zed's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Zed missing with knees to the body.
Zed misses with the head strike.
Zed is trying to break the clinch but Richards has him pressed against the cage.
Richards avoids the elbow strike from Zed, against the cage.
Richards misses with some punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Richards lands a hook to the side of the head.
Zed scores a nice knee to the body.

Zed's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zed fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Richards manages to avoid it.

Richards closes the distance and pushes Zed back into the cage.
Richards blocks the elbow strike.
Richards scores with a nice hook to the head.
A short body shot lands from Richards as the two fighters clinch.
Richards misses with a punch to the body.
A left hand lands to the body for Richards.
A nice right hand lands inside from Richards.
Zed is trying to break free.
Zed is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Richards dips a shoulder and cracks Zed with a mighty uppercut! Zed falls back against the cage and Richards unloads with a barrage of strikes! Zed is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Richards screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Viv Richards!
