The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nurmi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Penaali looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Nurmi is trying to get an arm triangle but Penaali is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Penaali's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Penaali parries the strikes from Nurmi easily there. Nurmi is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Penaali to escape.

The strikes coming from Nurmi are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Penaali gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Penaali apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Nurmi misses with a hook. Penaali ducked under it nicely.

Nurmi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nurmi throws an elbow that misses. Penaali uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nurmi's guard. Nice move by Penaali!

Nurmi content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Penaali has locked up a guillotine! Penaali's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Nurmi is holding on here and Penaali must be using up a lot of energy. Nurmi has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Penaali gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Steele throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Vanagandr.
Vanagandr scores with a crisp jab that stopped Steele in his tracks.

and Vanagandr counters with a right, left combo that wobbles Steele badly! Vanagandr follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks Steele out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Vanagandr finished him against the cage.
