The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Bowens counters with a nice double leg into side control. Khan won't be happy with that.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Khan tries to bench press Bowens off him but Bowens keeps the position.

It looks like Bowens might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Khan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Khan.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Khan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bowens is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Khan.
Khan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bowens wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bowens in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Bowens is putting a hurting on Khan here, landing some big shots from side control.
Khan is looking to regain half guard here but Bowens keeps moving and retains side control.

Khan is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Bowens working over Khan with some ground and pound. Khan looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Bowens seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bowens looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Bowens wants to free his trapped foot but Khan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
