The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmidt misses with a two punch combination.
Vongkhamchanh tries to move into range but Schmidt moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Vongkhamchanh keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Schmidt avoids the head kick by Vongkhamchanh.
Schmidt throws a left and a right that both miss

and Vongkhamchanh counters with a flying knee that drops Schmidt!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schmidt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vongkhamchanh gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Schmidt is looking for a triangle but Vongkhamchanh pushes his legs off easily.
Vongkhamchanh postures up in Schmidt's guard and throws a big left but Schmidt blocks it.
Vongkhamchanh wants to stand but Schmidt has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Schmidt has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vongkhamchanh can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vongkhamchanh is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Schmidt has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Vongkhamchanh is looking to defend but Schmidt has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Vongkhamchanh! Schmidt pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Vongkhamchanh taps out and this one is all over!

Undercard bout

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dewey Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mercito Gesta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cox comes to the cage accompanied by Guilty As Charged. Dewey Cox had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 186.7lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Gesta throws a lazy head kick
and Cox counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Cox tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Gesta manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gesta has his takedown stuffed

and Cox counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Cox wants to pass the guard but Gesta is defending well.
Gesta is trying to stand back up but Cox is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gesta wants to get back to full guard but Cox has mounted him!

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Cox has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Williams got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cheddars has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Williams has managed to get both his arms back between Cheddars's legs - danger averted.

Cheddars isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Williams stacks Cheddars on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Williams!

I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that I.P. Daily was going to win. Let's see if he was right.
