March kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Firm - Star Trekkin'. Nowak has his takedown stuffed
and March counters with a nice body shot.
Nowak shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
March throws a leg kick which misses Nowak's front leg but catches the back leg as Nowak tries to avoid it.

AJ March seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
March shoots in for a takedown but Nowak shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Cheechoo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cheechoo lands in his opponent's guard.
Cheechoo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hannant seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Cheechoo has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Cheechoo and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richardson shoots in for a double leg but McCall sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Richardson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
McCall throws a head kick that half lands.
Richardson blocks a head kick by McCall.
Richardson throws a left and a right that both miss
and McCall counters with a nice body kick.
Richardson ducks under a wild hook from McCall.
McCall misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

McCall clinches.
Richardson tries to break the clinch but McCall is controlling the position.
Richardson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McCall is defending well against a takedown attempt.

The fighters are battling for position here. McCall manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Richardson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McCall looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Richardson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear McCall down.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McCall manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

and Gilbert counters with a nice low kick that buckles Kelly's knee momentarily.
A swing and a miss from Kelly.
Kevin Kelly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kelly misses with a takedown
and Gilbert counters with a good, hard body kick but Kelly shrugs it off.
Kelly gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Gilbert counters with a leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Kelly. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gilbert throws a nice inside leg kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Kelly crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Gilbert - the referee stops the clock and Kelly gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Gilbert. Kelly manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Kelly is breathing heavily.
Gilbert lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Gilbert is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kelly.
Kelly misses with a looping right.

Gilbert clinches with his opponent.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gilbert escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Good leg kick by Gilbert there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Kelly misses with an uppercut.

Gilbert has closed the distance and engaged Kelly in a clinch.

Gilbert breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Kelly gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gilbert counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kelly!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kelly tries to reverse the position but Gilbert maintains control.
Kelly is squirming around, avoiding Gilbert's attempts to control the action.
Gilbert landing strikes from the mount and Kelly is in trouble!

Kelly is rocked!

Gilbert wants to finish this one by submission but Kelly is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gilbert.
Oh Kelly is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gilbert has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Kelly is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gil Gilbert!
Gil Gilbert opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
