The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boxing shoots in looking for a takedown. Roussimoff tries to sprawl out of it but Boxing keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Roussimoff manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fight stays on the outside here - Roussimoff looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Boxing avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Roussimoff lands a vicious elbow to the side of Boxing's head that scrambles his senses and sends him wobbling down to the canvas! Roussimoff tries to finish him with strikes but Boxing still seems able to defend himself so Roussimoff steps back and lets Boxing get back to his feet - he wants no part of the ground game.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schmidt closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Thome quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Schmidt is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thome is just riding it out for now. Schmidt eventually gives up the hold.
