Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshiro Gomi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matsumoto stuffs the takedown.
Gomi shoots for a double leg takedown but Matsumoto sprawls well. He's pushed Gomi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Matsumoto cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Makao Matsumoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yoshiro Gomi.

Gomi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Matsumoto's half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Matsumoto is looking for a sweep. Gomi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Matsumoto is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gomi pulls his head out easily.

Matsumoto is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gomi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gomi's back!
Matsumoto has the hooks in. Gomi is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Matsumoto is trying to stick to Gomi's back but Gomi is turning into Matsumoto. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Matsumoto's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gomi.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Matsumoto is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Makao Matsumoto will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Yoshiro Gomi's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Matsumoto swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Matsumoto is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Matsumoto throws a head punch that misses.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Gomi swings wildly with an uppercut but Matsumoto uses good head movement to avoid it.
Matsumoto misses with a hook from the clinch.
Matsumoto tries a body shot but Gomi blocks it.

Gomi pulls guard effortlessly.
Gomi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Matsumoto is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gomi pulls his head out easily.
Gomi is keen to just control but Matsumoto is a slippery customer.
Gomi is pressing down on Matsumoto's thigh, looking to free his foot. Matsumoto is holding on for now.
Gomi is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Gomi lands a nice shot to the head.
Matsumoto is squirming around, avoiding Gomi's attempts to control the action.
Matsumoto is in all sorts of trouble here.

Gomi trying to control but Matsumoto is having none of it.
Matsumoto is trying to escape the mount.
Gomi moves to take his opponent's back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gomi looking for the choke but no joy.
Yoshiro Gomi has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gomi is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Matsumoto has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gomi gets his hands free as Matsumoto looks to control.

Gomi is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Matsumoto with him. Matsumoto is trying to defend but Gomi has an arm under the chin now! Matsumoto grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Yoshiro Gomi!
Yoshiro Gomi decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
