The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magnum shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McEvoy defends it nicely.

Magnum fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging McEvoy to the ground. Magnum is now in McEvoy's guard.

Magnum drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McEvoy dives on top into guard.

Magnum has an active guard here but McEvoy has managed to pass into half guard.
Magnum is looking for a sweep. McEvoy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Magnum is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Magnum wants to control but McEvoy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McEvoy wants to stand up but Magnum has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Magnum has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McEvoy is working away from the top position though.
McEvoy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Magnum does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Magnum wants to improve his position but McEvoy is controlling well.

Magnum is staying active underneath McEvoy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Magnum uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McEvoy.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Magnum tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
McEvoy fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and McEvoy counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Magnum is lucky that one didn't land flush.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Magnum crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from McEvoy - the referee stops the clock and Magnum gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says McEvoy. Magnum manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Magnum drops back, looking for a kneebar! McEvoy looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McEvoy looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McEvoy!

Magnum is positioning himself well to prevent McEvoy advancing to mount.

Magnum is looking to control McEvoy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Magnum avoid being mounted?
McEvoy is keen to just control but Magnum is a slippery customer.
Magnum is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ryan McEvoy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Magnum wants to get back to full guard but McEvoy has mounted him!
Magnum wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Micah Magnum has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
McEvoy controlling well, preventing Magnum from escaping the position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for McEvoy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
