Ranger tries a head kick but it misses.

Simpson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ranger to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Simpson has his feet on Ranger's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Ranger misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and Ranger counters with a thumping low kick.

Simpson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ranger makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Ranger decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Simpson wants to control but Ranger is keeping busy and won't allow it.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Simpson is on top in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Simpson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ranger sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Simpson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Simpson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ranger is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
