The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Connell is on top in guard.

Connell seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Schmidli for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Donk. Kopstoot catches Smyth right on the button with a cross.
Kopstoot throws a series of punches but Smyth avoids them all with ease.
Nice takedown defense from Kopstoot. No joy for Smyth on that attempt.
No luck for Smyth with that takedown attempt.
Kopstoot connects with a good right hand that stumbles Smyth. Smyth circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Smyth shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kopstoot pinned against the cage. Kopstoot gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kopstoot got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smyth has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kopstoot has managed to get both his arms back between Smyth's legs - danger averted.

Smyth had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kopstoot is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Smyth Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kopstoot's back instead.

Nice sprawl there from Dean as Samuel shoots in.
Samuel avoids a punch combination nicely.
Samuel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dean sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Samuel somewhat.
Dean scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

It looks like Jon Samuel has been cut.
Samuel shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dean sprawls well. Dean wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Samuel gets slowly back to his feet.

Abbott throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bombs stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Abbott cracks Bombs with a big right hand and Bombs goes down!

Abbott postures up in Bombs's guard and throws a big left but Bombs blocks it.
Bombs tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Bombs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
