The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCoy ducks under a wild hook from John.
McCoy avoids the body shot from John.
John throws a leg kick but McCoy sees it coming and checks it nicely.
McCoy fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from John. No joy for McCoy on that attempt.
John pulls out of a head kick attempt.

John darts in and clinches McCoy up against the cage.
McCoy looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Punchy Mcsmashenstein!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcsmashenstein fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shield sprawls well initially but Mcsmashenstein persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mcsmashenstein missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Mcsmashenstein throws a strike but Shield avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Shield keeping moving, preventing Mcsmashenstein from controlling successfully.
Mcsmashenstein postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mcsmashenstein throws a strike but Shield rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Shield wants to get up but he can't break Mcsmashenstein's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Mcsmashenstein not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mcsmashenstein tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shield sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mcsmashenstein somewhat.
Mcsmashenstein shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shield as he jumps to the side.
Punchy Mcsmashenstein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looks like Punchy Mcsmashenstein has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mcsmashenstein tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shield swivels and escapes.
Matt Shield has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Punchy Mcsmashenstein.
Mcsmashenstein slips a jab and a cross from Shield.
Shield misses with a wild combination.
Mcsmashenstein shoots in for a double leg but Shield sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mcsmashenstein does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Shield scores with a hook to the body. Mcsmashenstein takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Mcsmashenstein looks gassed!
Shield lands a jab-cross combination.
Shield misses with a double jab.
Nice uppercut there from Shield.
Shield rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mcsmashenstein moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Shield connects with a superb combination that knocks Mcsmashenstein out cold! The referee charges across the mat and tackles Shield before he can land any more shots to the unconscious Mcsmashenstein!
