The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua lands a nice shot to the body.

Sakuraba fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rua sprawls well initially but Sakuraba persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Sakuraba throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rua's waist but Rua gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sakuraba off to one side.

Sakuraba changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rua tries to avoid it but Sakuraba manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rua to the ground. Rua escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A left and a right from Rua both land. Nice combination.
Rua lands a high kick to the side of Sakuraba's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Rua dives into guard, looking to finish.

The cut above Hidehiko Sakuraba's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Sakuraba escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rua gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rua gets to his feet - Sakuraba follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
