These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton jabs at Sparrow's body.
Newton throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

It looks like Jason Sparrow has been cut.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Newton.
Newton getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Sparrow fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Newton pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sparrow slips a jab and a cross from Newton.

Newton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kai swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kai throws a one two combo.
Kai tries a head kick but it misses.
Kai closes the distance and clinches up with Phoenix, looking for a takedown. Kai pushes Phoenix against the cage but Phoenix circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kai is breathing heavily.
Kai tries a head kick but it misses.
Kai throws a right hand that Phoenix ducks under and follows up with a left that Phoenix also avoids with ease.
Phoenix will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Phoenix closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

That was a close round but I would say that Dan Davis will probably get the nod.
