Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
paersson looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Mendes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mendes with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Gwacie has control of Simpson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Simpson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Boston is cranking Gracie's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Gracie! He's tightened the choke and Gracie is tapping out!

Nice sprawl there from Rose as Chew shoots in.
