1210 MMA fight fans made their way to Hayashi’s Lounge on May 16 for the best GKNY has offered yet.

Shin walked away with the welterweight title around his waist and fans got to witness Nelson’s impressive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Besides Shin’s enthralling finish of Goss, it was a night where wrestlers dominated, stuffing the stand-up of some of the better boxers in the organization.

It was a night that had 6 submission finishes (Arm Triangle, Strikes, 3x Kimura, Guillotine), 2 TKO’s (Strikes), a No Contest (Weight) and a single fight that was left to the judges. Let’s take a closer look.

[Main Event]

Nelson def. Amagov by Submission (Arm Triangle) at 00:54 of Round 1

Archie Nelson was at his best, racking up a very impressive 8th first round submission victory against solid boxer Adlan Amagov. Amagov stuffed the first takedown yet there was no denying ‘Full’ Nelson, his second attempt tackling Amagov into dangerous waters.

The BJJ specialist fighting out of New York with Mello MMA worked for an arm triangle and had the Russian tapping in no time at all, the fight ending in a mere 54 seconds in the first round. ‘Full’ Nelson slots himself into 2nd place in the welterweight division with his victory.

He’s up to 8 wins and only has the newly titled champ ahead of him.Amagov lost his first fight with GKNY, his fourth overall, and drops to 3rd as a welterweight.

[Co-Main Event]

Shin def. Goss by Submission (Strikes) at 2:51 of Round 1

- Wins the Welterweight Title. Alex Goss came out rather aggressive, really wanting to take the fight to the ground and eventually it went that way, but just not from The Anvil’s superb wrestling.

Chalk it up to Lao Shin’s great defence, the Chinese born fighting out of London stuffed an incredible 11 takedown attempts from Goss before the 3 minute mark of the first round, when Shin gave Goss exactly what he wanted, the mat.

The end started when the fight went into the clinch and ‘To Chin’ Shin’s sensational Muay Thai skills picked apart the New Yorker, landing solid elbows and strikes that both cut and rocked Goss.

Shin had Goss against the ropes and unleashed a big elbow and some more strikes. Goss eventually dropped from the onslaught and wanted nothing more to do with Shin, tapping out at 2:51 of Round 1.

It was a dominant display of striking from Shin, who trains with Laz Staz and Dr Hatsumi’s Clinic in London. The win earned him the welterweight title, owner Andy McKenzie wrapping the belt around the very excited looking Shin’s waist after his hand was raised.

Shin locks up the 1st spot in the welterweight division and now has back-to-back wins with GKNY. He looks the goods and could be a dominant force with the GAMMA feeder before moving onto bigger and better things.

Goss records his first loss and drops two places in the GKNY welterweight rankings.

Przepiorka def. Fallen by Submission (Kimura) at 0:36 of Round 2

Piotr Przepiorka outclassed William Fallen with his wrestling in their fight, taking the New Yorker down three times and eventually submitting him early in the second round with a Kimura.

Fallen displayed some decent grappling defence in the first round, but overall there was a glaring difference in ability when it came to the Polak fighting out of Russia and his American opponent. That win, his 8th overall, puts Przepior into 7th in the middleweight division.

Nabokov def. Lizotte by Submission (Kimura) at 04:32 of Round 1

Vladimir Nabokov nullified Matthieu Lizotte’s boxing in their light-heavyweight battle.
The Russian training locally immediately got after a double leg takedown and after 4 minutes of sub attempts and some ground and pound, the fight came to an end via way of Kimura.
Nabokov gets his first win with GKNY and sits in 3rd on the divisional rankings, whilst Lizotte’s 4 fight win streak comes to an end.

Sphinx def. Manning by Submission (Guillotine) at 0:37 of Round 3

The number 1 GKNY lightweight stretched his win streak to 6 after beating Rashad Manning.
‘The Calculator’ let his opponent do the work by taking the fight to the mat, but he was the one to ultimately finish it. The end came via a Guillotine from the bottom position early in the third round.

Jimmy Sphinx’s win earned him both the Fight of the night and the Sub of the night award.
The American who trains with Tito Fedor and Ironfist MMA in Russia is on a good streak here, showing off his BJJ brown belt with 5 submission wins out of the 6. He stays at the top of the GKNY lightweight division and looks unbeatable at present.

Landry def. Rock by KO (Strikes) at 03:40 of Round 1

Ed Landry made easy work of Micky Rock to make it 4 straight wins in their middleweight fight, 3 of those with GKNY. ‘Lethal’ looked just that as he landed a massive right followed by a left, and the last crushing right hand dropped Rock to the mat.

Landry, who trains with Danny Laverty and Black Widow Gym in New York, has an impressive 4 of 4 TKO victories, 3 being KO’s. The undefeated middleweight knockout artist leaps onto the 1st rung on the division’s rankings ladder.

Kowalczyk def. Middleton by TKO (Strikes) at 00:59 of Round 3

In the lonesome super-heavyweight fight Marcin Kowalczyk dominated Mike Middleton, finally ending the fight a minute into the third round.
‘Kowal’ looked to have it done and dusted in the first with two big knockdowns, yet the relentless Middleton showed his solid chin and stuck it out.
It was already over on the scorecard before the third got going but Kowalczyk showed his finishing prowess and earned himself the KO of the night and an extra thousand dollars to his winnings.

The Polak fighting out of Tokyo made it three straight victories with that win and jumps to 4th spot on the GKNY super-heavyweight rankings.

Feline def. Jeremy by Submission (Kimura) at 01:27 of Round 1

Another wrestler defeated a striker when welterweight Alex Feline submitted Ron Jeremy. Jeremy got a few punches in before ‘The Cat’ took the fight to where he was more comfortable. A tussle on the ground eventually ended with Jeremy on the wrong end of a Kimura, tapping out a minute and a half into the fight.

Two straight for the unsponsored and unaffiliated fighter out of New York. Feline pounces on the rankings, sneaking into 6th as Jeremy falls 3 spots, to 12th.

Mark and Rude cancelled (No Contest) In a disappointing effort, Gareth Mark ended up not being able to cut weight and had his bout with Nick Rude cancelled.

The Welshman has signed a contract to fight as a lightweight at 155 lbs, yet he might not be able to make it at all in this division without dropping a couple pounds so he can make the cut.Canadian ‘The Prodigy’ is still yet to step inside a cage, or ring.

Williams def. Roc by Unanimous Decision (30-27)

The opening fight at GKNY 7 was the only one that went the distance, ending in a victory to Xavier Williams via unanimous decision, all judges scoring it 30-27 in ‘Kit-Kat’s favour. The unaffiliated and unsponsored New York local showed his strong boxing skills, and solid takedown defence.

He overwhelmed Enzo Roc in the clinch, shutting down his opponents better boxing skills. Kit Kat has two wins on the trot yet in such a stacked middleweight division he still sits outside the top 15.
