 Heroic 169

8th August

Heroic looks to continue its way to the #1 spot again in the ever-changing world of the org landscape. They are aiming to put on a show tomorrow as they have the light heavyweight title on the line, plus a slew of other great fights on the card. Let’s dig in.

Tiago "The Brazilian MT Machine" Renato vs. "Emitting" Light Diode – 205lbs TITLE FIGHT

Put a man in front of Renato, and the likelihood of you witnessing Renato deliver pure violence is very high. 20 times he has stepped into a cage, 18 times he has won and 17 times he has finished a fight by (T)KO. Whenever he steps into the cage he looks to grace fans with his aura, and as his nickname suggests, he uses his Muay Thai to great effect. He looks to batter away with kicks before landing heavy head shots and putting his foes to sleep. He will be looking to defend his hard earned HEROIC title belt. Diode, although he recently lost his last fight for the Syn title, he will be looking to add another belt. Before his first (and only) loss, he was on a 20 fight winning streak. He likes to use his high level wrestling and world class ground game to smother, beat or submit you. This has led him to many finishes, both (T)KO’s and submissions. His stand up will never be the best in the game, but it is sufficient enough to keep him out of trouble on the feet and long enough for him to secure a takedown, but he has showed some impressive skills on the feet. This will be a tough fight to pick from as these are two of the best at what they do. But every fight starts standing and Renato has this wicked power that can fell a tree, so I am giving him the edge, although if this goes Diode’s way I won’t be surprised.

Prediction: Renato via TKO

Zophiel Furfur vs. Rajja Khan – 155lbs

Furfur can do a little bit of everything. He may not possess devastating power or an ability to pull out subs from nowhere but he can make fights into tough wars and grinding fights. He is the perfect opponent for a fighter who wants to make it to the big time, most of his finishes are from his early career and his most recent victories have seen him use his well-roundedness to win UD or majority decisions. Khan like to finish, 17 out of his 27 wins are finishes, be them submissions of KO’s. Currently on a 7 fight unbeaten streak, Khan will look to extend that and will be hoping for a successful debut in HEROIC. He prefers to use his Olympic wrestling and black belt to make fights into battles of attrition and eventually beat you until the refs pulls him off or latch onto a limb and take the submission. Furfur will need to finish hear or he risks the time for Khan to secure a takedown and once on the floor this fight might be over.

Prediction: Khan via UD

Jim Beckett vs. "The Casablanca Clouter" Marcel Cerdan – 145lbs

Beckett is another ground specialist with a very heavy top game, once he gets you there; he rarely lets you go. His stand up is good enough, but he has shown no qualms in using it, but it is usually a means to set up a takedown and pummel you. Cerdan is a speedy boxing specialist with a great amount of power for this weight class. He also has a suspect chin having been KOed 12 times in 19 losses. Beckett has the overall better ground game, he probably will not want to stand with Cerdan. Beckett seems to be more durable so I will give him the edge going into this fight.

Prediction: Beckett via TKO

Kamil Burczynski vs. Julio Quintana – 155lbs

Burczynski is on a nice two fight winning streak in HEROIC entering this fight. He is a very aggressive ground fighter who will seek submissions or use his devastating ground and pound to finish fights. Quintana is currently on a losing slump, having lost his last 3 and is still seeking his first win under the HEROIC banner. He still has a great deal of potential in him, at only 27 years of age he can still become a force to be reckoned with, as he has some big time power for his weight class and he has a tough chin and good defense on the ground so finishing him may be tricky for Burczynski to do. I think that these two will be evenly matched on the ground and that Quintana’s defence will be good enough to get him out of trouble, then his power will come into play in the later rounds.

Prediction: Quintana via TKO

"The Thunderer" Lei Kung vs. Pietro Donatelli – 205lbs

Kung still has some of the best skills around, but he does seem to have something holding him back stopping him from his full potential. Anyway he is 1-2 over his last 3 fights and he is 31, so time is ticking and now is the time for him to start getting his game in order and dominate the 205 division. Donatelli has some big time KO power and a great, well-rounded striking game. He may have a deficiency on the ground, so if I were Kung I would look to find the easiest way possible to attain victory and sense the ground weakness and target that, but Kung’s stand up is truly amazing, when he gets going it’s beautiful to watch. I give Kung the edge wherever this fight takes place, but I expect at some point he will rock Donatelli and latch onto a submission.

Prediction: Kung via submission
