EHH 170lb Creation Tournament Round 1: Preview

Event Preview: Tournament Round: 1
Hostility (235K)
2014-04-10, Hilo, The Underground - Hilo
Author:Calvin Hobbes

Hey everyone, our first tournament is set to kickoff tonight, I’m really excited to see how it turns out. I’m pretty short on time as usual so let’s get to business. I want to thank our friends over at Four Leaf Fight Gear for their partnership, head on over there for some legit clothing! Sorry for the lack of posters lately I’ve been super busy. Now, here’s a little preview of what to expect tonight.

Preliminary Bout Number 1 - Welterweight Fight (170bs)

Jacques “The Nile Constrictor” Mubarak (0-0)  VS.  Tzaphqiel "The Son Of Thunder" Halo (0-1)

Our first fight of the tournament is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner against a Muay Thai fighter. Mubarak hasn’t had any fights yet so we don’t know what to expect other than him trying to get this fight to the ground. Halo lost his first fight, being force to tape out with just four seconds left in the first round… questionable…  He’s obviously going to want to keep this fight standing, let’s see if he’s made the necessary adjustments.

Prediction:  I think this will be a repeat of Halo’s first fight and he’s going to get taken down early and submit even faster than last time. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong?

Preliminary Bout Number 2 - Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Truman "Big Elbow" Goverdeen  (0-0)  VS.  Ozzie "Batman" Joren  (0-0)

Our next fight tonight is not part of the tournament, but it is a heavyweight fight and should be exciting. Both of these fighters are just 18 years old and are coming out for the first professional fight. Goverdeen is a boxer who’s recently received his blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu, other than that we don’t know much about him but we’re about to find out. “Batman” is a all-around fighter, training a little just about everywhere. He’s coming in here hoping that his variety of fighting styles will help him win tonight.

Prediction: I think Goverdeen clearly outclasses him in the standup game and Joren’s only chance is to really put the pressure and use his superior wrestling to his advantage, but since they seem to be about the same level in Jiu-Jitsu I don’t think it will help him too much and Goverdeen will secure the win, maybe by decision?

Preliminary Bout Number 3 - Welterweightweight Fight (170lbs)

Loasin Talimn (0-0)  VS.  Habeaz Corpuz (0-0)

For our third fight we have Talimn against Corpuz. Talimn is an All-American wrestler, and went very far with his wrestling. He’s recently been working on his boxing so that he can throw some punches and hopefully keep enough standup pressure until he can get the fight on the ground. Corpuz is also a wrestler, although not quite as established as Talimn. He’s been working the other aspects of his game, including earning a blue belt very quickly, not surprising with his wrestling background. This one might be a wrestling match, let’s see who takes it.

Prediction: Talimn is the better wrestler and will get the dominant position but I think Corpuz BJJ training will come into play once the fight is on the ground and he’ll take the win by submission, not really sure when though, maybe in the second?

Preliminary Bout Number 4 - Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Pat Garret (0-0)  VS.  Extreme “Kreator” Aggression (0-0)

In this next fight, we seem to have completely opposite fighters, Garret, the fighting Irishman is a superb boxer who seems to have been scouting his opponent and has been working on his BJJ since his opponent likes to wrestle. “Kreator” is a Muay Thai/Wrestler, he’s like a tiny Cro Cop.

Prediction: I honestly have no idea here, I think I’m hoping that Garret’s Jiu Jitsu training will pay off against the Muay Thai Wrestler. But that’s mainly because I train BJJ myself and want to see him eat the wrestler J

Preliminary Bout Number 5 – Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Sweet Jones (0-0)  VS.  Andres Tiburcio (0-0)

Next up is Jones vs. Tiburcio. Jones is a Muay Thai fighter with a blue belt in BJJ. He’s definitely scouted his opponent and has been working on his ground game coming up to this fight, let’s see if it pays off. His opponent, Tiburcio is a very strong and well known wrestler. We’re not really sure what he’s been working on for this fight, but hopefully it helps out against his opponents superior BJJ

Prediction: I think Tiburcio will take this one to the ground but Jones’ Superior BJJ will come into play and he’ll get the win via submission in the first or second

Main Card Bout Number 1 – Welterweight fight (170lbs)

John Punk (0-0)  VS.  Alexios Aleksandros (0-0)

Now onto the main card and most anticipated fights of the night. For the first fight on the main card we have Punk VS. Aleksandros. A Muay Thai fighter against a brawler. The question here is who’s going to be able to keep the fight where they want it. Punk is obviously going to be looking to keep this standing and maybe even in the clinch, whereas Aleksandros will be looking to take this to the ground and use his strength to his advantage.

Prediction: I think Aleksandros will use his superior wrestling and take this fight to the ground and be the man moving onto the second round of the tournament.

Main Card Bout Number 2 - Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Tachmukhammet “Prince Of Persia” Assurbanipal (0-0)  VS.  “Papa” John Schnatter (0-0)

Up next on the main card is “Prince Of Persia”, an all-around fighter against “Papa” John Schnatter A seemingly one-dimensional wrestler. This could be an interesting fight since “Prince Of Persia doesn’t seem to do anything particularly well, although he does have the superior BJJ and is going against a wrestler…

Prediction: I’m pretty confident most of this fight will be on the ground and Schnatter will be able to take it there at will. I’m not sure how well he’ll be able to control he fight against the better ground grappler. I think “Prince Of Persia” will end up getting the win via submission in the first or second round.

Main Card Bout Number 3 - Welterweight (170lbs)

San Kuro (0-0)  VS.  Mr. White (0-0)

Next up is a wrestler vs boxer match. These fighters are equally skilled on the ground and this should be an interesting fight. I don’t know what Mr. White’s takedown defense is like, but if it’s any good I think he’ll definitely have the advantage on his feet. Even when he gets to the ground they seem to have just about even Jiu Jitsu skills. I guess all we can do is see what happens, this might be the fight I’m the most curious about.

Prediction: I think Mr. White will outclass Kuro with his superior striking and be a good matchup on the ground maybe being able to stall until a standup where he has the advantage. I’m going with Mr. White by KO/TKO late in the fight or decision.

Co Main Event – Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Hendo “The Trucker” Riggs (0-0) VS.  John Terry (0-0)

For our co main event we have two seemingly one-dimensional fighters. Riggs being a wrestler and Terry being a Boxer. Both of these fighters are very good and respected for what they do. I think both of their game plans are pretty obvious and it’s all going to be about who is able to execute it.

Prediction: Honestly I’m pretty positive this fights going to the ground. I don’t think Terry has any chance at defending the takedowns and keeping this fight off the ground. I’ll go with Riggs by TKO in the second.

Main Event - Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Sub “Ice” Zero (0-0)  VS.  William “Calamity” Klinger (0-0)

Here comes the main event, this one seems really interesting, neither of these fighters are very strong in any area, but they are decently trained just about everywhere. This fight could go either way and should be a good main event, assuming they put on a show and aren’t trying to swing dance…

Prediction: I honestly have no idea who’s going to win here. I’m going to go with the ninja… because… well, he’s a fucking ninja and he shoots iceballs.

Thanks for reading and I hope the tournament is exciting, I want to thank everyone who’s participating and hope you all put on a good show J. Stay tuned for the recap, later tonight or possibly tomorrow.

I’m still looking for anyone who wants to do some graphic work, we need a logo and a dedicated poster maker, I’m a little too busy for it. If anybody has any graphic skills please contact me and help me set something up.
