Day with Krzysztof "Sweet Dreams" Ostrowski

Fighter profile of Krzysztof Ostrowski by Petro Sohitto

Krzysztof Ostrowski was born in Swinoujscie, Poland. But he is fighting out of Las Vegas now, since he signed his first professional contract. Former Youth Polish BJJ Championships medalist in many categories, now is contracted to Crucible Fights, where he has 6-6-0 record. He has earned his nickname already in professional cage. Sweet Dreams-  6 wins, all by submissions, with some inclination to put to sleep opponents with guillotine.

Many of young mixed martial arts amateurs are dreaming about signing professional contract one day. And we are here to let you show how Real Pros are living and training.

He starts his day at 6:00 with small protein nutrition and 45 mins of running, followed with 45mins circuit training- few series of dumbbell jump squats, walking dumbbell lunges and dumbbell squats again. Then shower, low carbohydrates breakfast and Super Shake, actually made of  his sponsor's 'Steel Penn's 160 Recovery' mixed with almond milk. 'In old days, just after i switched to professional, i had to take much more muscle and stamina nutritions to improve my body to pro level, but after doing that, now i can mainly focus on my technical side. Physical side is the most important thing in doing anything professionally. You can't do anything if your body stops you down.', says Ostrowski.

Next Training is at 12:00 and what is it, it depends from day. Today is Tuesday, so his main training target for morning training are ground skills. 'Every Tuesday i can destroy myself, because tomorrow is Wednesday. In training week actually except free Sunday (only morning running), i have only one MMA training scheduled on Wednesday, so it's easy day, to recharge batteries for second part of the week'. After warm up he starts with some takedowns from clinch exercises followed with some endurance boxing training on speed and heavy bags, to jump into conditioning focused training- today it will be mainly running track, push-ups, squats and abdominal training. And finally he can start main part of training, focused on ground play, mainly ground n pound. 'I'm derived from BJJ, with which i still have a lot to do- i'd like to get black belt in near future, but i've decided with coaches that i need to focus on more hitting than grappling aspects, to become more universal fighter' says Sweet dreams. This part of training is focused on advancing positions and look for making damage from the top then.

'I remember my first trainings after joining Crucible Fights. I was dying after each morning training and there was still one more to go this day. However hard and tough it sounds- you can get familiar with that. It's all about hard work. First weeks are tough, but then it becomes your routine'- it's hard to believe, but when watching Polish MMA fighter, it looks like truth. After training there is time for shower, high carbohydrates meal specially prepared by catering company instructed by Ostrowski's manager- Sohitto, and one more Super Shake from Steel Penn's with almond milk. And then some relax watching TV (mainly sports- football, american football, basketball and of course, all kinds of fighting bouts) and reading books.

This lasts until 19:00, when third training starts. Today it will be wrestling focused workout. And this means for Krzysztof, that it'll be a lot of strength training. He starts with some dynamical warm up- footwork focused, then calm down with stretching. Then harder work comes again- agility drill, shuttle runs for 25 yards, tractor tire flips and roped medicine ball slams. This part ends with push ups, squats, pull-ups and abdominals- all with extra weight. Then Sweet Dreams is ready to step into mat for his wrestling sparring workout. Today for start it will be only stand up and clinch wrestling skills first, then some fight variants situations and full sparring at the end. Now just some stretching to cool down and he is ready to step away from mat, but not from training center yet.

After another shower it's time for massage, sauna and some body recovering wellness. And day is ended with low carbohydrates meal, small beer and some relax with UFC on game console.

Thanks for reading,

Piotr.
