BFT 197 Atsushi vs Vimes Review

Light Heavyweight - Former champ Shananigan Lurendrejer knocked out "The Namibian Nightmare" Mukassa Jones with strikes at 3:49 in round 2.

The fight started out and both men were trying to end things early. Neither men had success at the distance, so Jones took the initiative and moved to the clinch. But Lurendrejer had thrown a good couple shots to set up a takedown. And from there Lurendrejer got to work. He was throwing shots at will and worked him down until the end of the round. The second round started, and Lurendrejer took things back down to the mat. From there he landed the ground and pound for a while, and Jones seemingly had no responce for the shots. It just kept going on like this until the ref jumped in.

What's next for the former champ? I think it's a little soon for a rematch against the champ MacMilla, although I could be wrong. But a second go-around with Titus "TKO" or Antoine "A-Train". For some new blood, Trinidad Suarez wouldn't be bad.

Heavyweight - "The Freak" Brock Lesnar submits "Demolition Man" Alistar Overeem with an arm triangle at 39 seconds in the first round.

Don't blink. Overeem tried to clinch, but Lesnar used the momentum to get the takedown. From there, he landed two nice shots that set up his arm triangle. It was locked in tight immediately and that's all she wrote.

What's next for "The Freak"? He could try his hand against another "Overeem". Jason Hannibal to be specific. Some other good fights would be against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira or Josh Barnett, some great fights for grappling fans.

Heavyweight - "Leonidas" Diziz Sparta Unanimous Decisioned Former two division champ and Hall of Famer Jake the Snake

The two guys came out to fight. They traded early, and it showed as Sparta cut open Jake with a solid head kick. Jake was working hard and Sparta could tell, so after 3 failed attempts, Sparta took things down to the ground. Sparta worked on a little ground and pound until The Snake was able to wriggle his way back to the feet. The two guys began to trade on the feet again. These guys looked like they were out to kill. Jake looked really well on the feet here, but both men made it to the distance. They traded again at the top of the second, and Sparta went to take the fight to the ground again. From there, Diziz was able to hold him down and land some nice shots. He even went for more submission attempts, ending in 5-3 for the round. The third round went off and Diziz enjoyed the time he had on the ground with Jake. He went ahead and brought things down to the ground once more. They ended things on the feet, but Sparta looked like he knew he had things in the bag. They went at it until Diziz earned himself the hard fought victory.

What's next for Diziz? I like him fighting the winner of the next fight. Also a fight with Pete Tippin or even Jason Hannibal are good options. Josh Barnett is also a viable option.

Co-Main - Heavyweight - Former Title Challenger "Lord" Kim Jong submits Former champion Steve "The Tank" Tompkins with a rear naked choke at 3:22 in round 1.

The two men wer pretty even on the feet, but Jong initiated the clinch with the intentions of bringing the fight to the ground. And he did it with great success. He worked away at submission after submission until he was able to sink in a rear naked. It was a hard fought submission, but it was a great one.

What's next for Mr. Jong? I'd keep my eye on a title fight with him soon. Some good options are tonight's winner Diziz Sparta or Pete Tippin. Dingo Monster could also provide an entertaining fight.

Main Event - Lightweight Title! - Champ "Kana" Kuroda Atsushi Unanimous Decisioned "Stoneface" Samuel Vimes on his second bid for the lightweight metal for his 3rd Title Defence.

The fight started off with Sam doing what he loves: punching people in the face. The two of them went at it on the feet and Vimes was landing as many punches as... well as you would think. Atsushi was working on the legs early, and it looked like they were getting on Vimes's nevers but not too much more. In the second round, the Atsushi was much better with the shots. He was landing much more this round. The two seemed fairly even on the feet, but Vimes still had the edge. Atsushi mixed things up and took the fight to the ground, and from there he worked on some ground and pound, peppering in a few submissions until the end of the round. The third round started and Atsushi took things back to the ground. But this time Sam was able to work his way back to the feet and exact his vengance. He was able to stay ahead on the feet and just get the better of Atsushi. A solid jab even had Atsushi on wobbly legs... for about a quarter of a second. The forth went off the same as the third; a solid takedown from Atsushi with some good ground work. Atsushi had the fight get back up to the feet, but from there he things didn't look as bad as it had in previous rounds. The two men traded, and seemed much more even than it had previous rounds. The leg kicks Atsushi kept throwing had been getting to Vimes and I think they began to do some serious damage. As things came to the fifth round, it was clear that Vimes wanted to end things, but with his pop lost, he couldn't stop the takedown. Atsushi was able to stay on point and work on the ground and pound and rode it out to a decision.

What's next for "Kana"? A rematch with Samuel Vimes will be a viable option in the future, but one with Mohammed Ul Haq seems reasonable. If that doesn't sound good, a few more rounds with Bonifacio or Woo are good options too. And of corse, Hall of Famer Guilherme Alves is looking for a something big.
