UNDER CARD

Welterweight Fight

#28 Urac Hunt (5-3, 1-2 NGF) v #23 Michael Lescott (6-6, 2-3 NGF)

This massively exciting card got started with…um… a real sleeper.  This was by far the worst fight on this card, which I thought it would be.  I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about this one.  Urac Hunt is just a boring fighter.  Once again he didn’t attempt a single punch, just kicks; he got in the clinch and tried only elbows.  Michael Lescott was simply disappointing, he went 1-22 in strikes, he attempted 19 take downs, was successful in just 2 of them, and on the ground he looked lost and couldn’t improve positions, land punches or pull off any of the 3 sub attempts.  Thank god it was only friends and family watching this one, and I think even some of them took a bathroom break during this snoozer.  Hunt takes the fight 29-28, 29-28, 30-27.  After the fight it was announced that Lescott was being cut from the NGF.

Featherweight Fight

#13 Riviere Hinds (5-4, 1-0 NGF) v #11 John Johnson (4-6, 3-6 NGF)

Another disappointing loss by John Johnson who just looks lost out there.  Riviere Hinds, welcome to the NGF!  Hinds was able to get a take down early in this one, but it was Johnson doing all the work.  He was very active from the bottom and he was attempting a lot of submissions.  Hinds was the more active striker, he was the one throwing the strikes and he did get the take down, so give him round 1.  In the 2nd, Hinds shot for the take down right off the bell, got it and it looked once again, like Johnson was going to outwork Hinds, he was once again attempting nothing but submissions from the bottom.  I was around the 2:30 mark that Hinds was finally able to posture up and he rained bombs down and this fight was stopped at the 2:45 mark of the 2nd.  You have to feel bad about Johnson; I don’t know where his head is at.  Riviere Hinds looks like a real force after this debut performance.

Feaherweight Fight

#23 Jack Brown (4-2-1, 1-0 NGF) v #2 Andreas Almdudler (6-2 NGF)

Jack Brown came into the NGF and he said he wanted Andreas Almdudler, he got the matchup and then he walked the walk.  Brown showed fantastic wrestling skills, he was able to get take downs and he did whatever he wanted to do on the mat.  Andreas Almdudler is a good wrestler too, but he had no answers and could not improve his position, going just 1-14 in trying to improve.  The story of this fight was once again, Almdudler was one dimensional again; he threw out week strikes and then went for takedowns.  He went 0-10 in takedowns and completely wore himself out.  He was never able to get his ground and pound going and at the same point, Brown was able to work him over with 10 ground strikes landed out of 22 attempted.  A dominating 30-27 unanimous decision debut win for Jack Brown.

Bantamweight Fight

#15 Ron Sieler (6-6 NGF) v #8 Jon Erik Andersen (11-8, 5-4 NGF)

I don’t know what to say about Ron Sieler, he looks like his tools are very good, he looks like he’s improving as a fighter, but he just can not seem to beat anyone ahead of him in the rankings.  Sieler once again was given an opportunity to fight a higher ranked fighter and once again, he failed.  This was a very entertaining fight and the crowd did give these two a standing ovation.  The story of this one was just how Jon Erik Andersen looked, he was quick and he landed a lot of strikes standing.  He did a lot of damage with his leg kicks, he landed 11 of his 21 attempted leg kicks and it clearly had an effect on Sieler.  Each round saw a little bit of boxing and Muay Thai.  Sieler was clearly trying to take this to the clinch more then he’s done in any other fight.  He was active and he did manage to land a lot of significant strikes there, but so did Anderson.  The difference was how many punches JEA was able to not only throw, but land.  Sieler was flat awful on his striking defense in this one, I’m not sure why.  Andersen finished 26 of 38 head punches and 33 of 48 punches total, compared to Sielers 8 of 23 total punches.  Andersen clearly won all 3 rounds and he moves to 5-4 in the division while Sieler goes to 6-6.  It will be back to the drawing board for Sieler and a top 10 match up for Andersen.  One thing, you got to say that Ron Sieler has a chin of stone!

Super Heavyweight Fight

#11 Ted Bundy (7-2, 2-0 NGF) v #12 Leopold Stotch (6-2, 1-1 NGF)

Two of the best young fighters in the NGF put on a show for the nearly 3,000 fans in attendance.  Ted Bundy showed off some real striking talent and Leopold Stotch showed he can take strikes and keep coming.  It started quickly and it was Stotch landing the first significant blow, a step back uppercut that landed right on the chin of Bundy, snapping his head back and opening up a cut.  A few minutes later it was Bundy landing a quick shot that cut Stotch above the eye.  This has become a serious problem with Stotch, he has been cut in all but 2 of his 8 fights.  Even with the cut, Bundy was battered and even more bloody looking and I would say Stotch took the 1st round.  The 2nd was a war, these two guys just let strikes fly and both guys were just bloody messes.  The big moment of the round happened very late, a overhand right by Bundy knocked Stotch right to his butt, but Bundy couldn’t capitalize and the round ended.  Round 2 was clearly Bundy’s round, he threw and landed more strikes, got some take downs and had the knockdown too.  You could see both fighters were getting their cuts worked on and you thought, either cut could be bad enough to have the fight stopped.  The 3rd was slow, you could tell both fighters were protecting their cuts, but it took just a little jab from Bundy to open up Stotchs cut.  Blood was running down his face and into his eyes.  The ref stopped it, the doctor looked at it and then called the fight at 2:27 of the 3rd.  Amazingly this fight wasn’t the FOTN!  It’s a shame because these guys need that bonus money for the dr. bills their going to run up.  Great fight, I was out of breath watching it!  These two are going to be monsters in the super heavyweight division.

MAIN CARD

Bantamweight Fight

#9 Yoshiteru Goto (7-6-1, 1-0 NGF) v #11 Bill Nevin (9-5, 1-1 NGF)

This was a fight I was so looking forward to, and man, was I treated to one of the best fights I’ve seen in a long time.  The 1st round was a beautiful display of stand-up fighting, Yoshiteru Goto looked very good, zipping in jabs and leg kicks, while Bill Nevin was able to find his range and land strikes of his own, although, not as many.  The two took the fight to the clinch where they both worked so hard.  Both guys stayed active the entire round, but Goto looked to land more.  The 2nd was the same, both guys standing there, trading strikes, but once again, it was Goto looking to be the better striker.  Goto was a little quicker, he was getting his strikes off first, often hitting Nevin right as Nevin was about throw a strike, perfect timing by Goto.  It was in the 2nd where Goto did the most damage to Nevin with his Muay Thai.  Overall in the fight, Goto was able to land 22 of 31 head punches in the clinch to Nevins 6 of 34.  Before the 3rd Nevins corner told him to let it all hang out, boy did he ever.  Nevin came out and pushed the pace from the bell.  He was moving forward, he landed a big right hook right to Goto’s jaw, but Yoshiteru clinched up and slowed the pace down.  Nevin tired, but Goto was just too much, and although Nevin threw more strikes in the 3rd, Goto was still able to land some significant kicks and punches to still give him the 3rd round.  Goto took all 3 rounds 30-27 and he will move into a contender position.  I think Goto will have to face a top 5 guy next to then be considered for a title shot.  Bill Nevin fought his heart out, it was FOTN performance, but he will have to work on some things before his next fight.

Middleweight Fight

#6 Jima Jamm (10-3-1, 1-0 NGF) v #3 Darius Elerman (10-2, 3-0 NGF)

This one was advertised as the #1 contender fight, well, I think that’s because everyone thought Darius Elerman was going to win this.  Jima Jamm had other plans and he told the NGF brass there’s more than just one fighter in this fight.  It’s been reported that there is turmoil in the Elerman camp; some have reported that his manager Azamat Alikov, has left the team.  I’m not sure if this affected Elerman, but man, he sure didn’t look himself.  The bell rang and Elerman tried for a takedown, the fight went to the cage where Jamm landed a quick uppercut that stung Elerman and cut him open, badly.  Jamm came into this fight looking good, he clearly had a good camp and it showed in his quickness.  He just simply sidestepped  a punch from Elerman, then Muhammad Ali style, bobbed and weaved out of the way of two more sloppy strikes.  After the weave, Elerman was in a bad position and Jamm dropped him with a beautiful combination.  Darius was rocked, but Jamm waved him back to his feet.  Elerman got up, but he was clearly not right, he walked at Jamm with his hand guarding his face, but Jamm launched a straight right hand that split the defense and knocked Elerman out cold, not only earning Jamm the win, but the KOTN also.  Jima Jamm has moved into serious title contention, maybe one more fight.  Darius Elerman suffers the devastating loss and now, with no manager, his career has taken a horrible turn for the worst.

Heavyweight Title Fight

#12 Vadim Kalashnikov (12-4, 1-0 NGF) v #3 Patricius Satanae (7-5, 2-1 NGF)

I was waiting to see this guy fight, Vadim Kalashnikov is a beast and I couldn’t wait to see him in action.  Another beast in the heavyweight division is Patricius Satanae, he won the KOTY award so we know he can throw bombs; I thought this could have been up for the FOTN.  This one was pure stand up from the start.  They both met at the center of the cage, both sizing each other up, leg kick, jab, just trying to feel each other out.  It was Kalashnikov that landed the 1st big strike, a right hook out of nowhere that landed, cutting Satanae on the cheek.  Patricius Satanae then put together the next few strikes, some good punches that stung Kalashnikov and I thought the fight might have turned.  But these two guys just don’t go away and they both can recover.  Kalashnikov was able to clinch up when he felt the fight started to turn in Satanae’s direction.  Back and forth this fight went, both throwing lots of strikes and both landing good shots.  It was a big right hand that connected by Kalashnikov and sent Satanae to the mat.  Vadim was a little off balance after he landed the punch, and Satanae was able to get back up.  Kalashnikov rushed back in to try and end the fight.  He unloaded a vicious head kick that landed and actually lifted Satanae off his feet a few inches, landing dead asleep.  Wow, what a kick and what a win by Vladim Kalashnikov!

Light Heavyweight Fight

#11 Gunner Malone (15-6, 0-2 NGF) v #15 Ivan Grozni (10-4, 3-2 NGF)

I’m trying to figure out Gunner Malone, is he good, is he just all talk?  I’m not sure, one thing is for sure, and he has had a rough start to his NGF career.  Ivan Grozni needed a big win, he needed this win, and he came out fired up.  Before the fight Grozni said he was watching a lot of DVD’s of fights.  He was watching a lot of tape on Malone and he said he was more prepared for this fight than any other fight he’d been in.  In my preview I said that Malone’s weak point would be the ground game and that Grozni might want to finally show some ground game himself, exactly.  Ivan did not want to test the power of Malone; he got out of the dreaded clinch of Gunner and then took him down.  It was pure ground and pound from there.  Malone once again could do nothing on the mat; Grozni controlled and beat the hell out of him, landing 7 of 16 strikes.  Grozni was able to get into full mount late in the round, he landed a hard elbow then a few big punches, rocking Malone, after 3 or 4 more big shots land, the ref jumped in to stop this one with just 2 seconds until the end of the round.  Malone has now gone 0-2 in his first 2 fights; he’ll have to figure out something before his next fight.  Grozni showed the light heavyweight division he’s coming and he means business.

Light Heavyweight Title Fight

#2 Brett Riverboat (11-2, 6-2 NGF) v #1 Jack Poldi (11-4, 6-1 NGF)

When the lights went down to start this one, my god the place got so loud, I got the full body shivers too, I could not wait to see these two fight.  Brett Riverboat, one of the most exciting fighters in the NGF, a fighter who can end a fight any way, he can cut you, elbow, flying knees, kicks, he is aggressive, he’s creative, he’s awesome.  Jack Poldi, the most dominating champion the NGF has had, 4 straight title defenses, creative, dangerous, simply awesome!  The fight started and Jack shot for the takedown and got it, I did not see that coming, but it might have shown the respect he had for Riverboats knock out talent.  The fight pretty much stalled then, over a minute neither fighter did much of anything on the ground.  It was Riverboat who made the first move, a really nice roll reversal into side control.  Once again, both fighters did little but to try and gain position.  Then after almost 2 minutes of doing nothing, the ref stood the fight up…thank god!  Then Poldi took the fight to the clinch and completed a trip takedown.  The fight was once again on the mat, which had the crowd upset and they let the fighters know.  The ref once again had enough of these two doing nothing, so he stood them up again.  The fight ended with Riverboat clinching up with Poldi.  Surprising, the 1st round was a boring round with hardly any strikes attempted let alone landed.  In the 2nd, all hell broke loose.  The bell rang and Riverboat charged forward, he stopped and launched a monster uppercut, landing right to the side of Poldi’s head and he crashed to the floor, the crowd went silent as the ref charged in, thinking about stopping the fight, but when Riverboat didn’t rush in to finish the fight, Poldi was able to scramble back to his feet and the fight continued.  Then Poldi was able to recover and he landed a few strikes.  He was able to clinch up with Brett, and he landed a wicked elbow, cutting Riverboat on the forehead.  Now the fight had turned in Jacks favor, and you felt he was going to turn on the championship talent and end this fight.  Both fighters were still in the clinch, Poldi was trying to end this with heavy elbows, landing a few, but Riverboat was throwing strikes himself, and he also landed a big uppercut that stunned Poldi.   Riverboat started to get his hands free, he landed a couple of real nice shoulder strikes followed up with a quick shot inside and you could see Poldi’s knees buckle.  Riverboat pushed Poldi up against the cage and as the two separated, Riverboat caught Poldi right on the jaw with a right hook, knocking the champion to his knees, and as he tried to stand back up, Brett jumped in with heavy punches and this fight was stopped at 1:32 of the 2nd and we now have A NEW LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION BRETT RIVERBOAT!!
