New York Invasion presented by Soul Supremacy Fight Club- Review
Hello, Steve Hickson here with your review of New York Invasion.

Benjamin Sniddlegrass (3-7) vs. Damian Syzlin (0-1)

The first fight of the evening was a lightweight fight between Benjamin Sniddlegrass and Damian Syzlin.  Sniddlegrass is the much better fighter in this matchup, but has also lost five in a row.  All five were first round stoppages with four coming by way of strikes, so Syzlin could not be counted out.  Syzlin clinched up early, but it was Sniddlegrass who took advantage by landing multiple knees to the body.  The knees really took a toll on Syzlin, who looked completely outmatched by the more experienced Sniddlegrass.  After a referee separation, Sniddlegrass landed a kick to the body that setup a huge head kick.  Sniddlegrass followed with some strikes on the ground to force a stoppage.

Winner by tko Benjamin Sniddlegrass

Ellis Wyatt (2-0) vs. Samuel Borne (3-2)

The next fight was a lightweight fight between Ellis Wyatt and Samuel Borne.  Wyatt clinched early and tried to land some knees, but most were blocked by Borne.  Borne then decided to pull guard, but was stood up for lack of action.  Wyatt clinched again, and continued to throw knees.  Borne tried to get it back down, but Wyatt was able to keep it standing for the rest of the round.  The second round saw more of the same, with Wyatt clinching and throwing knees with an occasional elbow.  Borne was able to block most, but really had nothing offensively working for him.  The third round saw more clinch action, as Borne was unable to get it to the ground again.  The fight went to the judges with all three scoring it 30-27 for Ellis Wyatt.

Winner by unanimous decision Ellis Wyatt

Rocky Walker (1-6) vs. Tripp Hazard (0-3)

The third fight was a middleweight fight between Rocky Walker and Tripp Hazard.  Both fighters are strikers, so this one was expected to stay standing.  Most of the first round saw the two fighters trade missed shots back and forth.  Walker seemed to be more active and landing a little more, but that changed in the final minute.  Hazard was able to land almost at will in the final minute, and probably stole the round.  The second round stayed standing as well, with neither really gaining an advantage.  Hazard probably done a little better, but walker probably did more damage.  The third round went similar to the previous two, but this time Walker was able to land more as Hazard seemed to be fading.  Walker turned it up late looking to finish, but Hazard took every shot in stride.  The judges scored it 30-27 Hazard, 29-28 Walker, and 30-28 for the winner Tripp Hazard.

Winner by split decision Tripp Hazard

Rich Marshland (5-11) vs. B G James (0-5)

The fourth fight of the evening was a bantamweight fight between Rich Marshland and B G James.  Marshland entered this fight on a five fight losing streak, but was hoping to use his superior ground game to break the streak.  James also entered with a five fight losing streak, but was looking to use his striking to earn a victory in this one.  James controlled the early portion of round one with his striking, before landing a takedown.  James quickly popped back up looking to strike.  After Marshland clinched up, James made a very questionable decision by pulling guard.  Marshland took advantage by moving into mount and raining down shots.  James couldn’t do much on bottom, but did survive the round.  In the second James got a quick takedown, but had to fight off Marshlands sub attempts from the bottom.  James seemed exhausted, and Marshland was able to take advantage and land a sweep into mount.  James tried to survive from bottom, but Marshland was relentless from the top and eventually earned the tko stoppage.

Winner by tko Rich Marshland

Ricci Boyd (2-4) vs. Danny Hendo (2-6)

The final preliminary fight was a middleweight showdown between Ricci Boyd and Danny Hendo.  Both fighters are primarily wrestlers, with Hendo having the advantage.  Neither fighter wanted to throw a punch early in the first.  They traded takedown attempts, until Hendo finally got it to the ground.  Hendo worked some strikes in until deciding to stand up and test his standup.  After landing some good shots on the feet, Hendo again dove in for the takedown.  Hendo continued to land punches from the top, until he was able to lock in a triangle late in the round to earn the victory.

Winner by submission Danny Hendo

Bobby Butcher (2-0) vs. Brandon ss (5-1)

The first fight on the main card was a lightweight fight between top prospects Bobby Butcher and Brandon ss.  Butcher is a great boxer, with good enough wrestling to usually keep the fight standing.  ss is a grappler with good submission and a strong wrestling game.  Butcher knew he would have to start fast to keep ss from getting to close, so he threw early and often.  When ss did start to come forward, Butcher nailed him with a straight right that put him on wobbly legs.  After a couple shots to the body, Butcher was able to land a big right hand that sent ss to the ground.  After a few follow up shots, the referee stepped in to stop it at only 1:57m of the first round.

Winner by tko Bobby Butcher

Leo Shi (4-1) vs. Samson Savea (5-5)

The next fight was a heavyweight fight between Leo Shi and former champion Samson Savea.  Shi is a wrestler with almost no striking game, while Savea is a good boxer with wrestling to match.  Both fighters missed with some early strikes while trying to find their range.  Shi tried for a takedown, but Savea was able to stuff it.  Savea finally started landing some strikes, and Shi really had no answer.  Savea continued to pick Shi apart, while also avoiding his takedown attempts until Shi finally went down.  He got up quickly, but Savea was on him instantly and landed a straight right that put Shi down for good.

Winner by knockout Samson Savea

Johnny Dime (7-5) vs. Rogue Four (4-1)

The final fight on the undercard was a middleweight fight between two former title challengers, Jonny Dime and Rogue Four.  Dime is the more rounded fighter, and tried to take advantage by clinching early.  Dime popped out to land some nice kicks to the body, but then made the mistake of the fight by taking it to the ground.  Four, a bjj red belt, quickly locked in a triangle choke and forced the submission at only :58 of the first round.

Winner by submission Rogue Four

Craig Stevenson (5-3) vs. Jonny Webbs (10-2)

The co-main event was a bantamweight title fight between former title holder Craig Stevenson and the champion Jonny Webbs.  This was a rematch from the revival card.  Webbs won that fight in only thirty seconds with an armbar.  Stevenson tried to strike early, but Webbs used his aggressiveness against him and landed a takedown.  Webbs worked for a few submissions, but Stevenson defended nicely.  Webbs eventually moved to mount, and then to the back when Stevenson tried to escape.  Webbs quickly went for a choke from the back, and eventually sunk one in and earned the victory at 2:52 of the first round.  It was his sixth straight win by first round submission.

Winner by submission Jonny Webbs

Joel Abadi (13-6) vs. Shawn Jackson (11-7-1)

The main event was a heavyweight title fight between Shawn Jackson and the current champion Joel Abadi.  Both fighters are very well rounded, with Abadi having a slight advantage with his striking.  Jackson got an early takedown, and tried to lock in a triangle attempt.  Abadi used the attempt as an opportunity to sweep.  Abadi eventually moved into mount, and tried to land some good shots from the top.  Abadi spent the rest of the round landing strikes, but also being very cautious to not let Jackson up probably costing him the finish.  Abadi made up for it in the second round by peppering Jackson with low kicks, until throwing one high that knocked Jackson to the ground.  Abadi followed with some elbows from the top to force the stoppage.

Winner by tko Joel Abadi
