Welcome to the Tycoon Times

Editorial by Mike Tycoon

Welcome to Tycoon Times’ first edition, delivered direct to your virtual doorstep. It will be a weekly newspaper, assuming we have enough quality submissions, featuring all manner of fighter interviews, event previews and reviews, company and manager profiles and editorials about all things Tycoon and MMA in general.

There have been a number of attempts at off-site news resources but being external made them a bit out of sight and out of mind, so I wanted to make a resource that could do justice so some of the great writing work within the Tycooniverse.

The final catalyst was Syn’s 200th event promo video which was posted in the forums but had only received around 100 views on You Tube. I want to make sure features like that get the exposure and credit they deserve because I really appreciate the effort that goes into them.

So, now the paper is up and running and you can see the general layout of things, you should be a bit clearer on the sort of article that will suit the paper. Use this as a resource to really get involved in the role-play aspect of the game and bring your fighters to life, bring some publicity to your company or big up your alliance. Do whatever you like but keep it original and you’ll be

2011-11-20, Tokyo, Tokyo Bowl
Author:Big Boss

MAIN EVENT
No. 8 HW vs No. 22
Don Marciano v Son Goku

The Matchup: One of the most anticipated heavyweight showdown in recent memory. The pair clashes earlier in the year in a 50 minute back and fourth battle. Goku fired off repeated leg kicks and battered Marciano's leg in route to a hard earned unanimous decision. Both men have continued to improve by leaps and bounds and once again Marciano comes in as the heavy favorite. His only loss belongs to Goku who has been defeated twice since the first meeting. Whoever staggers away from this one shall be near the top of the Tycoon Heavyweight ladder.

Son Goku got to an incredible 12-0 before being stopped consecutively by top ranked Merrimac Mjolnir and Hawk Seibold. From there, Goku battled back to an impressive 16-2 record and comes into the Main Event fight knowing he can go toe to toe with Marciano

StemsFunf $325,000 Scholarship Fund for New Managers

Editorial by Bo Dayshus

R.I.P STACEY TAYLOR
13-7 career record with 7 KO losses.
Stacey Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund for New Fighters AKA StemsFunf
CURRENT FUNDING LEVEL: $325,000

MMA Fans WorldWide, it is a sad day. My former fighter Stacey Taylor has died as a result of getting knocked the f out too many times. Unbeknownst to me, Taylor came from a rich family but had no heirs of his own. After his death, his attorneys contacted me to let me know that I had inherited his estate valued at $1,400,000. Because I am a philanthropical gentleman, I will be starting the Stacey Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund for Noob Fighters (STMSFNF...also known as StemsFunf) with a whopping initial investment of $25,000. The Scholarship Fund will be used to fund noob or noob-ish fighters in their quest to not get "knocked the f out" 7 times in 18 months.

How does a manager/fighter apply for these funds? Please send me an email in-game with a short (or long) request for funds. You can as

Adam's NORTHERN WILD Stampedes Ahead

KINGDOM, Clothing Company, Los Angeles
Company profile by General Mills

Adam's NORTHERN WILD in Los Angeles is 2 months old. Since we opened our doors, over 50 shirts have been designed. Consistent sales, led by fighters' needs for something new & different, gave us 7 straight weeks of "500 weeks" sales.  The clothing company began with a focus on animals, but really simply strives to offer a simple and clean look, while still being interesting and unique.  NORTHERN WILD focuses on tees & often does a "$10 Sale". This, and other clever marketing and advertising techniques, has helped us become one of the biggest booming and profitable clothing companies in Los Angeles & in the entire Tycoon world.  Manager Brocc Ogan stated Adam's NORTHERN WILD was, "The most o

Jose Oquendo - The Secret Weapon

Video article by Knockout Bob

"The Secret Weapon" Jose Oquendo Not much is known about The Secret Weapon before he entered into professional MMA. But his career inside the octagon has been watched pretty closely. Jose Oquendo currently stands at 14-3 with 4 title fight wins, 6 fight of the night awards and 4 knockout of the night awards. Today's story will be a recap of all 17 of those fights.

Jose Oquendo (Professional MMA Debut) vs Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva (0-1)
Jose Oquendo's first fight was against the heavy handed former kickboxer, Wanderlei Silva in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Silva had lost his first fight rather quickly, getting submitted in just 41 seconds. Both guys were almost purely strikers at the time so everyone knew this fight was going to stay on the feet. Jose had never boxed before and was only taught to use his kicks. No one gave him much of a chance coming into the fight. Once the fight came however, Oquendo dominated all 3 rounds, winning rounds 2 & 3 with 10:8 scores by all 3 judges. He outworked Silva by using only kicks and even knocked him down once in the second round with a huge head kick but he was unable to follow it up with another one. Throwing only 1 punch (and missing it) the entire fight, Oquendo walked out with his first win, a unamious decision victory.

Jose Oquendo (1-0) vs Thiago Alves (Professional MMA Debut)
Oquendo's strategy going into fight 2 was exactly the same as fight 1. Kick Alves's head off! Although he didn't quite kick his head off, he came close. Oquend

Bedlam 61: Anderson Vs Carter

Event Preview: Bedlam 61: Anderson Vs Carter
Bedlam
2011-11-17, Los Angeles, Hyashi's Lounge - Los Angeles
Author:

MAIN EVENT Frank Anderson v Rick Carter Frank Anderson: Andersons 8th fight with Bedlam see's him, on
paper, out match his opponent in nearly every aspect of the game. Coming off the back of a win via TKO at Bedlam 59 Anderson will look to double his win streak against Carter. Rick Carter: Also coming off the back of a win at Bedlam 59, this one by way of Submission, Carter a 7 fight Bedlam veteran appears to equal his opponent only on the matts. However he'll have confidence going into this match-u having beaten Frank Anderson before.

CO-MAIN EVENT (185lb Title) Jack Jaw v Turd Ferguson

Jack Jaw: The 10-3 fighter is riding a 2 fight win streak that saw him claim the Bedlam 185lb title last time out t Bedlam 58 against Erik Olsgaard. A fighter equally at home in the championship rounds as he is TKOing his opponents, will be tested in his 1st defence of the title. Turd Ferguson: Ferguson a mainstay with Bedlam since its inception has had 17 fights under its banner, with a 2 fight win streak ongoing his current run of form has seen him thrown back into title contention. A title that has illuded him ever since his 1st crack at it way back at Bedlam 26 where he lost via KO to Scott Morgan. Tonight Ferguson will seek to take this fight to the ground and use his superior Jitz in an attempt to finally call the 185lb strap his own

Fight 3 Frank Garcia v Mark Harrison

Frank Garcia: Garcia's last outing at Bedlam 59 saw him take home the Fight Of The Night award along with the win for his KO against Earl Alexander and he'll be hoping for more of the same tonight. Things look like they could get rocky though and he'll need to utilise good boxing sliders to better his opponent. Mark Harrison: Harrison appears to be on a march to the top here at Beldlam, winning both fights since signing with the Org. Showing solid stand-up and a rounded ground game he looks good value for the win tonight.

Fight 4 Leonid Vasilevsky v Kustaa Pohjanala

Leonid Vasilevsky: After winning the title on his debut with the Org Leonids fortunes has been somewhat mixed. Currently 4-3 with Bedlam he'll be looking to put the hurt on Pohjanala and

The Evolution of MMA (Article I)

Editorial by Moosh LooLoo

What do Bruce Lee, Hélio Gracie, and Antonio Inoki have in common?

Well, firstly, in their heyday they could all beat the souls straight out of 99.9% of the planet but, also, more importantly, they are three of the most important people in the history of mixed martial arts, whether you know it or not. All three shared a dream (which is also shared by 99.9% of men on earth) to one day see the worlds’ great martial arts masters battle it out mano y mano and prove which style is the best on earth! The important thing to consider here, though, is that they MADE IT HAPPEN! From Bruce Lee’s quintessential guide to hand combat, ‘The Tao of Jeet Kun Do’, to Inoki’s Gotch-inspired ’Shoot-Style’ of professional wrestling (and fighting!), to the eventual culmination of modern MMA and the ultra popular UFC (founded in part by Hélio Gracie), there have been no greater influences of modern hand-to-hand combat sports across the world.

The age old question of which school of martial arts would dominate all others doesn’t span mere decades, of course, and has probably been an idea floating about since the invention of the right cross! In Greece, the Olympic Games (maybe you’ve heard of it?) was founded almost solely on this idea and Pankration was born. The goal of which was to pit two men together in a fight to the death by bludgeoning, beating, or choking the life out of the opponent with nothing (literally, not even clothes) but their bare hands… Compared to the brutality we love, the Greeks were fairly hard-core… Fast forward some centuries to Ancient Rome where they took some of the fun out of it, but added a ton of blood and guts… The Gladiator Games regularly hosted tens of thousands of people at time to watch contests pitting styles vs. styles… but with weapons! These people were also pretty damned hard-core… Fast forward through centuries and millennium of people chopping each other up for various reasons, where wars fought at an arms length was commonplace throughout… and consider in all those years and all those armies there was at all times a ‘toughest guy around’, whether with sword or fist, and he was sure to be tested by the other ‘

Starting A Fight Organization - The Basics

Editorial by Chuck Grace

Starting a successful company is probably one of the most difficult tasks in the tycooniverse.  I've had some success in this area so I thought why not do a quick story about how to develop a successful company in MMATycoon.  Now being that my only real in-depth experience with companies has been with a fight company I thought that I would focus on that company style in this edition of starting a successful company.

So "how do I go about starting a fight organization to begin with?" you ask.  Well for starters I suggest you do some research, because if you don't chances are you're org will wind up a mess, with a short roster, and quickly going broke.  So you're going to want to start with clicking on the "My Business's" icon under the VIP heading, and then the "Start New Company" link at the top.  For a shortcut here is the link http://mmatycoon.com/startnewcompany.php.  Now this is where your research begins.  You'll want to look about halfway down the page to where it breaks out how many of each company type are currently in play in each city.  So for our purposes let's check out Orgs.  You'll notice it makes narrowing things down rather simple by showing you in red/green, based on the 120 OK principal, what areas COULD use another fight company.  However, it should be noted that this doesn't mean that any city NEEDS a new fight company.  For our purposes we'll assume one of these areas does, in fact, need a new org.  So how do we proceed?  Well let's pick the areas with the highest fighter to org ratio.  So as I'm looking at the numbers this is Rio(175.33) and St. Petes(156.25).  Now what you're also going to want to check into is quality of competition in the area.  Is one of the areas lacking in entry level orgs?  What about middle of the road orgs?  Is there the possibility of creating a "specialty" org in the city ie - K1, BJJ rules only etc?  To create your company enter the new company name in the "Company Name" slot, select your location, and company type.  If you have some money you want to sink into the company enter the amount in allocate funds, and should you require a bank loan enter the amount which can be up to $50,000.  Now click the "Yeah, I get it, companies are hard work but I'm starting one anyway!" button.  Congrats you've just opened a fight org!

Ok so, for example purposes, now we've decided that St. Petes is in need of an entry level org.  We've created our new company, now what?  First things first we need
