Catchweight Wrestling Championship Grand Prix

AUSTRAILIA BRACKET

Ladies and Gentleman, the CWC Grand Prix begins all the way from the land down under, Australia. Sydney will be hosting the very beginning of this insane tournament featuring 8 grapplers at the highest level of skill. In this CWC:GP we will cover each of the grapplers competing and provide a snippet of a preview for their upcoming match. I am so excited to be beginning this process with you all lets dive in to the very beginnings of the Grand Prix.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Claudio Ty

1.  Claudio Ty

Largely considered by many to be a leading favorite in this tournament is #3 P4P grappler, Claudio Ty (27-6). He is the former CACC champion and an absolute legend in the grappling realm. The former Bronze Medalist believes that he has what it takes to go the distance and defeat the competitors who get in his way. Managed by one of the best in Arcalimon, Claduio Ty has found major success with him and at his new weight class as a middleweight. Being that this is an open weight grand prix, most critics are considering Ty to win the whole thing if not get to the very near finals considering that he himself has bounced around different weight classes. At one time, Claudio was nasty with catching people in armbars and forcing them to tap, as he has aged, transitions have become more of his melody as he controls his opponents outscoring them from bell to bell. Claudio Ty is my pick for the Australia Winner.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Ibbe Ribbler

2. "The Riddler" Ibbe Ribbler

Ibbe Ribbler (15-11-1) stands in the tournament as one of the grapplers very few guys want to find themselves against. Ribbler, who holds his Red Belt from Fenrir MMA considers that grappling is the purest sport. Recently, Ribbler defeated Rodrizinho Chai to become the CWC welterweight champion. Regularly working for submissions in all of his matches, Ribbler is phenomenal in any position and will relentlessly work to catch his opponents in a lock that will see them surrender. One of the key factors about Ribbler going into this tournament is that he falls directly in the middle of the open weight matchups, meaning this could be both advantageous or disadvantageous depending on who he is against. Ribbler is certainly a favorite by many to do well in this competition and considered by his team to eventually be dubbed the Champion.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Aedan Declan

3. "MRFR Coach" Aedan Declan

After over a dozen years in mixed martial arts, Aedan Declan (25-11) hung up the gloves and put on the rash guards. Shortly after entering the greatest grappling promotion on the planet, Declan found himself as both a middleweight and light heavyweight champion in grappling. The talented Irishman is 42 years old and still moves as if he is a twenty year old on the mat. Holder of a Black Belt to go along with his elite level wrestling, Aedan has been a tough match for anyone he has come up against. This tournament should provide him with a shot at redemption against two of the toughest matches he has had in recent times against Dragan Hozdic and Claudio Ty. Declan is a favorite by many to win the Australia bracket.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Shanti Anatta

4. Shanti Anatta

One of our youngest competitors and fastest rising stars in the world of grappling is none other than the prayerful one, Shanti Anatta (22-16). The Indian born grappler transitioned out of the buddhist lifestyle to a more contemplative life in putting people to sleep. Many would have considered this guy to be one of the more peaceful type especially on the mat, but we have seen Anatta break arms in the past and may very well see that happen once again. At just 134lbs he is our smallest competitor and may have an extraordinary amount of difficulty as this competition goes on. His willingness to compete against the best of the best speaks volumes about his dedication to self-mastery and focus on becoming the greatest grappler in the world. Shanti Anatta should be able to put on some stunning submissions before all is said and done.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Hero Galanos

5. "The Gladiator" Hero Galanos

Former TWGC champion Hero Galanos looks to cement his legacy by capturing the CWC Grand Prix winner. Hero, who at one time was one of the hottest Light Heavyweight prospects on the mma scene, transitioned to grappling where he has seen unbelievable success. Galanos has focused diligently on becoming the most dangerous grappler and running through the Australian bracket will see him become just that. Prior to his two most recent losses, Galanos was riding a ten fight winning streak defeating some top talent in the heavyweight division. He will begin the competition against one of the smallest competitors on the bracket. The Gladiator is a massive fan favorite and considered by a good amount of folks to win the Grand Prix.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - David Morrison Jr.

6. David Morrison Jr.

37 Year old David Morrison Jr. is undoubtedly going to become a hall of famer when all is said and done. Former TWGC champion and remarkably well rounded martial artist is holding on to the belief that he will become the Grand Prix champion by storming through his opponents in the Australia bracket. His coaches at Mello MMa spoke to us about the talented red belt saying, "look how he puts these MF'ers out! Hes going to clear out this Grand Prix and win the whole thing. All these other guys are sponsored by who knows who, but sponsors are lining up at his door because he's a BAMF! His work ethic is insane, they cant match him." Actually, we arent sure if that was his coach or just a random guy in the gym but the reality is, David Morrison Jr. is a very very serious contender to win this Grand Prix!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Felipe Ferreira-Alves

7. Felipe Ferreira-Alves

Not many are giving Felipe Ferreira-Alves (3-1) a chance in this competition. Perhaps one of our biggest underdogs, the sensational grappler has switched managers recently and is relatively inexperienced to many of his opponents that he would be matched up against. Alves, who has two of his wins by submission, believes that his Black Belt is going to shine through for him and he will be tapping his opponents left and right. Despite him not having the hardest level of competition before, his coaches and teammates believe he has a real shot at winning this thing provided that he grapples how he grapples and not plays into any of his opponents games or tricks.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Alexey Andreev

8. Alexey "Andreich" Andreev

Being considered the lowest of the rank in the Australia bracket is Alexey Andreev (2-1). A grappler with such little grappling experience fight fans are wondering why he signed up for the Grand Prix to begin with.  The 38 year old black belt from Russia normally fights between welterweight and middleweight and finds that he will have advantages in these areas and be able to employ a lot of his strength on his opponents controlling them from each transition they intend to make. We do not actually expect Andreev to get past Ty but his teammates are holding out hope that he will shock the world and submit Claudio Ty and should he be able to do that, he will certainly be the name everyone remembers from this competition.

Catchweight Wrestling Championship Grand Prix

SOUTH AMERICAN BRACKET

Ladies and Gentleman, the CWC Grand Prix continues in the city of the Gigantic statue of Christ, Rio De Janiro! Rio will be hosting some ridiculous matchups featuring 8 grapplers at the peak of their game. In this CWC:GP we will cover each of the grapplers competing and provide a snippet of a preview for their upcoming match. I am stoked to be continuing this process with all of you. Lets get into it!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Dragan Hozdic

1. Dragan Hozdic

26-4...Legitimately my favorite grappler in all the land. If my previews or reviews feature him in it, you can almost guarantee I am considering him the winner. This guy is the definition of grappler. A champion for CWC for about 15 fights, this guy is been the best for a very long time. Dragan Hozdic, originally from Serbia, was training out in Las Vegas up until a month ago where he and his camp moved to Rio to live a life more geared towards the Jiu Jitsu culture. Some considered the move to have played a part in his loss from the TWGC while others have seen him become more aggressive in his matchups. Dragan who is a 38 year old Red Belt knows what it means to get the job done and does so against the very best on a regular basis. He is my prediction to win this entire event or at least make it to the final four.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Prana Halo

2. Prana Halo

Prana Halo who originally had an opponent for the tournament, is now waiting to see who steps up to the plate. We will come back and edit this when he has one but the idea that this guy is willing to take on anyone is incredible! Prana Halo is the Light Heavyweight champion of CWC and has both Elite wrestling and a red belt in BJJ. This guy is fearsome by every definition and could be the person who takes the entire tournament by storm. Halo, who has fought some of the very best, will be much heavier than many of his opponents and more skilled than most. Due to his current win streak fight fans can almost 100 percent certain that he will look for submissions regularly in his matchups.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Jay Simon

3. Jay Simon

Jay "Dog" Simon (1-1), the former champion of Stoners Fight League, is now looking to immerse himself in the Grappling competition of the century. Simon, who is a lightweight in his fighting game, may be too small for some of his competition. Simon, who is by all accounts a dangerous fighter may be looking to showcase his submission skills against some of the top grappler in the game. Despite his low amount of engagement in grappling competitions he has scored 14 submission victories in his mixed martial arts matchups and fully expects to land some before this competition is all over.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Paul Hunt

4. Paul Hunt

A former TWGC champion Paul Hunt is excited about getting his name in the competition. Paul Smile Hunt (23-15) Is one of those guys who will be active and aggressive in every area of this match. His five fight win streak is getting him the confidence he needs to put away the opponents who stand in his way. Hunt, who is now 43 years of age, has shown no signs of slowing down or getting rusty in competition, honestly he has been looking better than ever. The Black Belt in BJJ relies on the submission game he has to choke opponents or put their arms in dastardly locks and end the fight. No doubt, Paul is going to be a huge favorite in this competition.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Raul Gracie

5. Raul Gracie

Raul Gracie (11-8), a red belt in jiu jitsu believes that he has what it takes to win this tournament and put away all opponents who stand in his way. Gracie who has not had much success in his grappling competition as of late has grown to be a bit frustrated and hopes that this tournament will put him on the track to success once again. many grappling enthusiasts believe his last three losses were mostly due to him losing the desire to compete. It certainly appears that he has regained that fire and will probably look to make the Gracie name proud once again.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - David Morrison

6. David Morrison

David Morrison (42-23) is undoubtedly going to be one of the major fan favorites to win not only the south American bracket but the entire competition. Morrison, who is a former TWGC world champion, believes that not only his experience but his expertise will be be such a vital factor in each of his matchups that he is barely concerned about being a smaller grappler in the overall competition. Former CWC champion hopes that this will be his time to shine and get the recognition he fully deserves.

Mixed Martial Arts Management - Cj Smith

7.  Hidden Challenger.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Ernesto Llosa

8. Ernesto Llosa

Competing in his third ever grappling match, the Peruvian Black Belt Ernesto Llosa (1-1) was matched up against the number one grappler in the world in Dragan Hozdic. This matchup is a lot for Llosa but should the Black Belt from Peru pull it off, it will be one people wont stop talking about for a long time. Ernesto was a former Mixed Martial Arts fighter who competed in Smash, even fighting for the title before making the full transition over to BJJ fighter. Ernesto has some of the most elite level of wrestling in the competition and at only 31 years of age may prove to be very quick for his competition.

Catchweight Wrestling Championship Grand Prix

EUROPEAN BRACKET

Ladies and Gentleman, the CWC Grand Prix eventually finds its way into the great city of London where the best European grapplers will continue the competition in eliminating each other in the Open weight Grand Prix. If you have not yet taken a moment to look into it, check out our other two fighter previews above. For now, lets get take a look at our European competitors!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Shane MacGowan

1. Shane MacGowan

Perhaps one of the most dangerous grapplers in the entire competition is none other than "The Pogue" Shane MacGowan! (31-5) he literally has 31 victories to his name and only five defeats! The talented superstar grappler MacGowan has beaten some of the very best names in the sport of Grappling and now looks to assert himself at the Grand Prix that begins this weekend. Shane, who holds both a TWGC belt and the Middleweight title for CWC is expected to pile on win after win like a kid stacks oreos. MacGowan is our favorite to win the European bracket and certainly a real threat to anyone who matches up with him.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Rico Cole

2. Rico "Red Hot" Cole

Rico Cole (9-3) is a CWC champion and talented grappler by all accounts. The sensational wrestler and Black belt in BJJ is on a five fight grappling win streak removing some of the toughest competition at the lightweight weight class. Red Hot, is not the most experienced grappler but is certainly a well rounded grappler that has proven to be too much for top level competition in the past. As he enters the European bracket, Rico will be matched up against some very tough and dangerous opponents and the popular grappler will certainly gain a lot of new fans should he come out with the new belt around his waist.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Matvey Pavlov

3. Matevy "The Gymnast" Pavlov

Perhaps one of the more experienced competitors in the tournament is none other than Matevy "The Gymnast" Pavlov (47-24). Pavlov, who by all accounts is a living legend in the grappling world has entered this tournament at just 36 years old feeling both in his prime and ready to shock the world in stunning fashion. After bowing out of the TWGC tournament a while back, Pavlov has been focused more than ever in the gym and his teammates are confident that their man gets it done and brings home the Gold no matter who the Russian takes on.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Tyrone Sparxx

4. Tyrone Lugz Sparxx

Former CWC Grand Prix champion Tyrone Lugz Sparxx (34-26) looks to become a two time Grand Prix Champion. Tyrone, who trains out of Los Angeles has entered into the European bracket and believes that his all around elite level of grappling will prove to be the reason why he takes home the gold once more. Tyrone is certainly expected to go far in this competition by many grappling fans and personally, he is one of my favorites to get to the final four of this entire competition.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - David Allan Coe

5. David Allan Coe

Perhaps one of the most intimidating grapplers in all of Catchweight is the American outlaw, David Allan Coe (21-15). Recently coming off a loss to the legendary Dragan Hozdic, Coe is hoping that he will be able to smash his competition. The red belt BJJ fighter and Elite wrestler is considered to be a viable threat to anyone on the mat and is for many, the favorite to win this entire tournament. His first match in the tournament is against Sparxx, who he has already beaten so a level of confidence he has coming into this tournament is almost unmatched.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Dido Vicini

6. Dido Vicini

Dido Vicini (49-25) is the definition of dangerous. Former CWC title holder and a TWGC finalist, Vicini has been around the grappling world a long time. As a light heavyweight competitor Dido is undoubtedly going to be more stronger than many of his opponents able to control them and outmaneuver a great deal of many of them. Vicini's coaches have claimed that they believe their black belt warrior will have no trouble advancing past the European bracket and on to the second round of the tournament. Pope Francis has personally reached out to Dido Vicini telling the Vatican born grappler to win it for their church and prayers will never cease for him.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Marc Read

7. Marc Read

Marc Read (7-2) is a thirty year old grappler who regularly outworks his opponents to get the decisive victory he needs to be victorious. With one submission victory on his record against a fellow Black Belt, it is safe to say that Read is not someone you want to take lightly. Read lost his last matchup against Joey Simone in a matchup that saw Read winning a majority of that match, now looking to get back on the winning side of things, he has entered a tournament where many believe him to be a dark horse in the competition capable of going the distance.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Rap Tori

8. Rap Tori

Rap Tori (8-4) is most certainly a crowd pleasing mad man on the mats. Having lost to Shane MacGowan in the TWGC finals in what was a very close match (5-4 on points), Tori looks to exact revenge by providing grappling enthusiasts with a stunning stoppage by submitting one of the leading favorites. Not many are giving Tori the light of day but looking on his previous match and how his record has gone in the past, I think it is safe to say that no one should sleep on Tori or they may be put to sleep.

Catchweight Wrestling Championship Grand Prix

NORTH AMERICAN BRACKET

Ladies and Gentleman, the CWC Grand Prix will finally end up in North America where 8 more competitors will look to best their opponents and become the next CWC Grand Prix champion. New York City is host to this awesome event and we can expect there to be over five thousand to be in attendance in this jaw dropping event. Lets get into it!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Antonio Brown

1. Antonio "Glimmer" Brown

The proud American, Antonio Brown (21-17) is the bantamweight champion of CWC and a red belt in BJJ. Brown is entering the tournament being considered by many the favorite in the American bracket and expected to go quite the distance. Brown who has competed in TWGC before went to the finals in the 32nd TWGC and was just shy of coming home with the gold. Now, hellbent on victory, Brown has made it his mission to defeat any opponent who gets in his way and chances are, he will end up doing it by submission.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Steel Grappler

2. Steel Grappler

A late addition to the tournament, Steel Grappler (17-11) is a former TWGC champion and a red belt in BJJ. Perhaps one of the more fearsome grapplers in all of the tournament Steel Grappler foresees himself putting his competition away with aggression unmatched. Grappler who trains at Area 51 allowed me to come in and watch him prepare for this upcoming tournament on late notice and after connecting with his coaches, I do believe he will be one of the finalists in the N. American bracket if not the winner of it all.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Able Archer

3. Able Archer

Sometimes a lightweight. Sometimes a Featherweight. Sometimes a Bantamweight. Able "83" Archer (20-10) has no problem mixing it up and bouncing around the weight classes to get matchups against different levels of competition. With a winning record and his eyes set on the title, Able Archer is expected by many to give grappling fans their monies worth. With all likelihood of seeking out submissions, Archer is by all accounts a seek and destroy type of grappler, a type the Gracie family would love.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Moldy Jello

4. Moldy Jello

Perhaps one of the most notorious names on the tournament roster is none other than Moldy Jello (13-16). Jello was a former champion in CWC but lost his title in scary fashion to Dido back in March. Since then, Moldy Jello has been on an on again off again record. Since his transition with his new manager Dean Sutherland, Moldy Jello has a record of (7-3). Perhaps the new Jello is not fully known by his competition but certainly by the end of this tournament, Dean Sutherland expects the whole world to recognize the Moldy one.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Reijo Halli

5. Reijo Halli

Despite his smaller size in weight, Reijo Halli is (7-3) has become a new craze in the grappling world after dethroning the former champion and laying claim to the Featherweight title. Halli switched managers and is now under Judo Beau has seen massive success with a (6-1) record together. Reijo expects to be considered an underdog against some of his opponents but in all actuality has a very real possibility of taking the tournament by storm and becoming the Grand Prix champion.

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Cajun Puto

6. Cajun Puto

"The GO A T" Cajun Puto (22-17) is a very experienced grappler completely elite in every department of grappling. His switch over to his new manager Paul Priest has seen him gaining momentum as a real contender in the grappling rankings. Puto is one of those guys fans love as he comes to kill or be killed, and with that mentality not many can keep up with him. Puto has a lot of talent on his side and so the 32 year old is expected to be putting on some spectacular submission finishes!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Harry Hirsch

7. Harry Hirsch

Although not being on his best of form lately, Harry Hirsch (17-12) believes he has it in him to not only win the North American Bracket but beat the remaining competitors after he does so eventually winning the Grand Prix title. The grappler based out of New York will be looking forward to performing in front of his hometown and hopes that many of his supporters will be there cheering him on. The black belt in BJJ is considered to be our seventh in the North American bracket so hopefully for his sake, he puts on some victories that amaze us all!

Mixed Martial Arts Fighter - Bart Cubbedge

8. Bart Cubbedge

Bart Cubbedge (7-7) has been dubbed "Smart" for a reason. Although losing his last five grappling matches, we dont know that reason. Bart was once a title holder of CWC and looks forward to one day reclaiming that title but desires to take on the Grand Prix and win the tournament showcasing his talented grappling skills once more. With a high tendency of going for submissions, fight fans will hope to see the smart one actively looking to finish his opponents but that may not always be we cant blame him if he looks to play it safe and go for points. One of our biggest underdogs, I will be personally rooting for Bart the whole way hoping he surprises the lot of us.

So we've ran into a slight problem and I need your opinion on what to do, we're nearing the second round and also it's TWGC time and Mike should be opening it any day now,  so here are a few option for the tournament:
 1. Keep going week to week, you pick what's more important TWGC or $$$$
 2. Postpone until after the TWGC tournament finishes.
 3. I could book events all week and we finish this by the 15th and hope its in time to join the TWGC.

All up to you guys but i'm leaning towards option 3, please let me know your vote.
