I could explain to you why, but at this point of the tournament it would be impossible to do so without an unhealthy amount of sarcastic vitriol and rage.

While that sounds fun, I don't want you to pop a blood vessel. No worries either way, I expect my Caribbean redhead to flail his way to another glorious victory.

Ok, Round 2 done and dusted and once again some interesting results. Fight results and the group standings have been updated on the front page and Round 3 fight offers have all been sent out. Still waiting for the first asshat to rage sack his fighter. So far, so good though. Fingers crossed.

Round 2 recap will be up in the near future.

2021 Alliance World Championships

Round 2 Recap

Group A

The match up between Naughtly Crew 3 and The Guardians kicked off proceedings for this round and it was an interesting showdown to say the least. Naughtly Crew's third team had been scheduled to receive a fortuitous first round bye giving the underdog team a little bit of extra time to even the odds. The Guardians of course returning after their shock loss to the ACME 1 minnows.

It was always going to be a toss up in the 135lbs bout between team captains Stuart Burrows (NC3) and Kasper Kalleste (TG) but on this occasion it was Burrows who shined with a five point first round submission victory for his team. Lightweight Isak Hardrada (TG) evened the score with lightning quick sixteen second KO over Naughtly Crew 3's Ultimate Warrior. Another match up that was touted to go either way was between middleweights Tran Quaach (NC3) and Matt Cosce (TG). On the night, Quaach made short work of the Daytona native and a big impact on his AWC debut. 10-5 to Naughtly Crew 3 going into the heavyweight match up between big favourite Drax Bautista (TG) and Uncle Abner (NC3) and there was a certain air of expectation that Bautista would tie this one up for the draw. With a previous decision win over Abner during fighter trials, Bautista might have felt confident in what he was going up against and he was indeed able to improve on his previous result getting the TKO finish in just one minute and twenty nine seconds of the first round and bringing this match up to a inconclusive 10-10 draw.

With previously unkind predictions for Naughtly Crew 3's tournament campaign they will likely take this draw as a positive. A very even start for them with some definite plusses but also some obvious concerns. Flyweight Stuart Burrows looks like an interesting prospect and one that might keep earning some points for them and middleweight Thai-boxer Tran Quaach is promising right now. Naughtly Crew 3 go in fourth in the table and currently are set to head into the middle phase.

With The Guardians previous loss to ACME, they could really have done with a win here but unfortunately they will have to settle for a draw which wasn't enough to shift them from the bottom of Group A. Things are still pretty tight in the group so qualifying for the champions phase is still a possibility but with poor results against two of the weakest teams in their division, the outlook doesn't seem great for them. They are going to need some major improvements at lightweight and middleweight with heavyweight Drax Bautista being their only real source of consistent points.

The other Group A match up featured last year's champions YABAI taking on surprise package and current group leaders ACME 1. YABAI were returning after a close loss to AWC newcomers Keyboard Warriors whilst ACME 1 were still riding high after their superb collective victory over favourites The Gaurdians.

Team captains Jay Reepo (YAB) and Devin Russel (A1) got the ball rolling and on this occasion, submission wrestling claimed yet another scalp of the striker with Reepo picking up five points for his team after his victory coming midway through round one. Bishop Bonesteel (YAB) moved to 2-0 with a tough but decisive unanimous decision victory over all rounder Torn Brot of ACME 1. At middleweight, YABAI's Omer Demirci put the contest out of reach for ACME 1 with a second round submission victory over Gretchen Alexander. At heavyweight, Peter Kowalski picked up a consolation victory over Huber Schlesien making sure his team were not going away without zero points. YABAI victorious 11 points to 4.

It was a big ask for ACME 1 against the might of YABAI but they certainly didn't disgrace themselves by going down without a fight. They do concede the first place position and spot in the champions phase currently but with two more match ups for them, there is still time and opportunity for them to get themselves right back. They are an interesting bunch and you get the impression that they are capable of causing upset at all weights.

It was a must win for YABAI who surely couldn't have afforded to go 0-2 in quick succession and especially against teams deemed massive underdogs against them. They got the job done and looked fairly capable in doing so. Perhaps some concern at heavyweight however with Huber Schlesian now 0-2  and drastically underperforming. They do take the top spot in Group A but are a match up ahead of second place Keyboard Warriors and will need to make sure they don't drop their heads again. The group is fairly competitive right now and a single loss could be devastating.

Group B

A big match up in Group B to get things started with returning silver medallists The Stepdads taking on upstart alliance Syndicate. The Stepdads of course having the large benefit of some extra training time with their first round bye and now an opportunity to see if it had been put to good use.

Submission wrestler Dreynos Elvul (Syn) remained undefeated after outpointing The Stepdads Ricky Green in a lacklustre affair and kick things off with a two point lead. A massive fight at lightweight with team captains Slash Shredder (Syn) and Shinji Tomoguchi (TS) going at it. Not much variety in this one as Tomoguchi went to work in the clinch for the majority of the bout but the crowd seemed to enjoy it as did the judges who awarded him the unanimous decision victory. Two points apiece going into the middleweight bout between Maximus DeMarcus Meridius (TS) and Al Hoffa (Syn). It was a close fought bout but in the end Meridius was able to secure a tight triangle choke midway through round three to add another three points to The Stepdads tally. Syndicates Sono Tiger, fresh off of his thirty-four second destruction of Kevin Mamar in his debut bout, needed some more of the same to steal the win for his alliance but unfortunately for him, he ran into the fists of big Bruce Hood and was out of the cage in less then two minutes of the first round. The Stepdads put a stop to the Syndicate hype train with a score of 10 points to 2.

Quite likely the toughest of their scheduled match ups, Syndicate were always going to be at least the slight underdogs against such an experienced and talented alliance and to be honest, it showed. Dreynos Elvul, coming from a very experienced management team himself, looks solid for Syndicate right now but at lightweight and middleweight they are now 0-2 which will be concerning for them. They now drop down into third place but still currently qualify for a place in the champions phase due to being on of the best placed third place teams.

What can you say about The Stepdads? Always consistently dangerous, last years runner's up came back into the tournament in a big way and look like men on a mission. Some real high spots for their team but the VIP mention must go to Bruce Hood who is managed by Step Deaddy Squiid. Squiid, if you remember, was responsible for guiding his last AWC fighter Bubba Wallace all the way through a glorious undefeated run in last years tournament. It will be very interesting to see if he can repeat. The Stepdads go straight in to a qualifying spot at number two but are a fight behind the current Group B leaders making them very comfortable right now.

Elsewhere in Group B we had Limitless taking on Naughtly Crew 1. Limitless returning from a hard fought draw against Legion of Doom whilst Naughtly Crew 1 still reeling from their 10-4 drubbing from Syndicate.

A super entertaining bout at 135lbs to get the ball rolling. Limitless' Paolo Del Geno taking on NC1's Clint River. Both fighters gave it their all on the feet and earned themselves fight of the night honours but in the end it was Del Geno who took the unanimous judges decision for himself. Disaster for Naughtly Crew's team captain Jake Keane who found himself taken down and tapped out halfway through the first round by Trey Limitless. That makes two in a row for Trey and both by submission. At middleweight Heinrich Von Slackenfuchs ground out a decision victory over Naughtly Crew's Reggie Booker but it was a poor fight that wont win either fighter many fans. With the two points from Slackenfuchs victory, Limitless had put the match up out of reach for Naughtly Crew and so it was merely a consolation victory for them when Kevin Mamar defeated Slim Towney by decision. Nine points to 2 for Limitless and a very nice scalp for them indeed.

Paolo Del Geno continues to shine for Limitless at 135lbs as does Trey Limitless at 155lbs. Both now 2-0 and looking like key members of their alliance team. On the flip side, there maybe concerns for their team captain Slim Towney at heavyweight who is still searching for his first points for the tournament. Overall, a superb performance by Limitless and good enough to take them top of the table. Of course it is still early days and they have a couple of very tough match ups coming their way but if they can keep their confidence, who knows what they can achieve here.

Naughtly Crew 1 were coming into this as the definite favourites so they will be very disappointed with their overall performance. On top of their last defeat, they now find themselves rock bottom in Group B and are on a collision course for the Bottom Phase finals aka the losers phase. There is room for much improvement within the team but if you had to single a single fighter out as underperforming it would likely be Clint River at 135lbs. He is now 0-2 and still searching for a win.

Group C

Moving onto Group C we had last years third place alliance FinnFighters making their first appearance in this tournament and they were taking on underdogs ACME 2 who returned after their debut defeat to Naughtly Crew 2.

An interesting little bout between flyweights CG Mannheim (FF) and Glenn Welch (A2) ended when BJJ Brown belt Mannheim snatched up an arm for a first round submission win after being taken down by Welch. FinnFighters team captain Rokken Roll was up next taking on ACME's Brett Keane and what a fight this was. Roll had to overcome an early knockdown in round one to stay in the fight but eventually did just about enough to earn himself a split decision victory over his Australian opponent. The bout was extremely well received earning both fighters a fight of the night bonus. It was ACME's team captain Mun So into the cage next and unfortunately for him, he did not fair so well. Quickly overwhelmed on the feet and suffering an early cut, So found himself knocked out soon after by opponent Oke Swahn to suffer his second KO loss in a row. With the match now completely out of reach for ACME any hopes for a consolation win at heavyweight were quickly dashed as FinnFighters Einar Kyrvansyyla made short work of Fidel DelLuna inside of the clinch and getting the win midway through the first round. FinnFighters win by a whopping 17 points to 0.

A crushing loss for the ACME second team who now fall to 0-2 overall. This loss in particular will hurt them going forward with such a deficit in the score. Still, with Brett Keane's performance at lightweight, they avoid going down by the maximum possible but overall, they are going to require a much better effort next time out if they are to climb out from the bottom of the group and avoid placing in the bottom phase bracket when this group stage is done.

A superb collective performance by the FinnFighters and a real statement of intent in their 2021 debut. Four victories out of four was enough to take them to the top of the Group and some very interesting match ups to look forward to.

Last showdown of the round was between previously humiliated Convicted Inc, who suffered a shock defeat against massive underdogs Team Panda, and Naughtly Crew 2 who were fresh off of a decisive victory over ACME 2.

First up were flyweights Norman Pike (NC2) and Neves Amadaus who managed to take the fight to a judges decision. The result was a mere formality however as Pike didn't even come close to troubling Amadaus having only even managed to catch him a few times throughout. At 155lbs, two fighters coming off of losses in their previous bouts were Convicted's Rico Axelrod and Naughtly Crew's Christian Caliman. Much closer this time but once again, a unanimous decision victory for Convicted taking them to 4 points to 0. With the match up starting to get away from them, Naughtly Crew really needed a victory but unfortunately for them, team captain Anders Thorsen was unable to figure out the awkward style of Convicted captain Haitian Ginger who secured the second round submission to put the bout out of reach. As in the other Group C match up, the last chance of a consolation victory came at heavyweight but once again it wasn't to be as Convicted's Ghengis Khan conquered and pillaged Dick Glovers confidence with a thorough battering inside the clinch. Khans victory added another five points to the tally and gave them the win at 13 points to 0.

A humiliating loss for Naughtly Crew 2 who were coming in confident that they could get the job done against an old and decrepit Convicted team. Caught completely unaware, there are definite lessons to be learnt here about overconfidence. With the loss they tumble down the group and crash right out of contention for a spot in the champions phase next. Still, there is time enough for them to turn it around but they will need to be much better prepared next time out.

With Convicted Inc finally waking up, the tournament just got a whole lot more interesting. Both Neves Amadaus and Rico Axelrod were looking like the weak links in the team they managed to turn things around but now the real question is whether Karter can be bothered to set their sliders for them every time. Haitian Ginger continues to look like the star of the team and with his second victory in a row he has helped put Convicted back on track for a spot in the champions phase finals

ROUND THREE - PREVIEW

We're now two rounds out of five down in this preliminary group stage and so we start getting to the part where some alliances will be starting to sweat a little. Let's take a look at the action coming up during this round.

In Group A we kick things off with a showdown between current second and third place teams Keyboard Warriors and ACME 1. Keyboard Warriors will be nice and fresh after their round two bye and feeling pretty confident after such a good performance against the mighty YABAI in round one. ACME 1 of course will be trying to regroup after their crushing defeat at the hands of the champions and a showdown with a seemingly in-form alliance such as Keyboard Warriors definitely isn't what the doctor ordered. Still, there is still somewhat an air of danger about them and that anything can happen still.

Both team captains will meet at 135lbs but the bookmakers will have ACME's Devin Russel down as a massive underdog against Akio Kurosaki. Whilst neither have set the tournament alight so far, Russel has been reported to have taken his loss during the last round very badly and has not been himself since. ACME's all rounder Torn Brot is an interesting fighter who suffered his first loss during his previous outing and he could struggle again against submission wrestler Aung Siang of Keyboard Warriors. Might be one to keep an eye on, especially if Brot can make use of his superior but mediocre stand up skills. At middleweight Keyboard Warriors 1-0 Bofur Widenose will be a heavy favourite against ACME's Gretchen Alexander and also, at heavyweight, Keyboard Warriors Felix Suarez is thought to have a slightly better chance at picking up the win over ACME's Peter Kowalksi.

Prediction: On paper it looks very much like a clean sweep for the Keyboard Warriors. They are favourites at all weights and are coming off of a superb win over YABAI, a team that defeated ACME decisively. In terms of the group standings, Keyboard Warriors are in second place but tied on points and separated by match points and with a fight in hand. They are in a comfortable position right now and a victory here would only make them more so. On the other hand, ACME are also tied on points with them but with a negative balance in the match points after last round. They were never truly thought of as champions phase material but they are currently on the cusp of being so. A win here would likely put them back into contention once again and that has to be a motivating factor for the underdogs going in.

The other Group A match up features current AWC champions YABAI and they will be taking on the lowly scrubs of Naughtly Crew 3. YABAI are currently top of the table but with a fight ahead of second place Keyboard Warriors. They will be looking for a big win to keep the pressure on there. Naughtly Crew return after their stalemate with The Guardians and will be hoping to pull of an upset here and perhaps move into championship phase qualification.

The big fight to watch out for in this showdown will be team captains Jay Reepo (YAB) and Stuart Burrows (NC3) Both coming in off of wins in their last fight and both yet to taste defeat in this tournament setting. The bookmakers have Reepo ahead just slightly although they may want to reconsider their predictions as Burrows seems to be making incredible progress in the gym. Yabai's 2-0 Bishop Bonesteel looks set to go over Naughtly Crew's Ultimate Warrior despite having a sizeable disadvantage in the stand up. Things a little bit closer at middleweight with Omer Demirci (YAB) having only slightly better odds of defeating Tran Quaach of Naughtly Crew. This one is an out and out grappler versus striker affair so it really comes down to who gets in first. An interesting bout at heavyweight featuring two struggling fighters in Uncle Abner (NC3) and Huber Schlesien. Schlesien now 0-2 in the tournament and grossly underperforming will be looking to reverse his fortunes against 0-1 Abner who will go in as a slight underdog.

Prediction: On paper, Naughtly Crew have a better than average chance at pulling off an upset against a dangerous YABAI team but the collective might of the champions really makes the prospect of that unlikely. Naughtly Crew's brightest talent Stuart Burrows is tied up in what is likely to be an absolute dogfight whilst their other point scorer is also facing tough opposition. Overall, it is more likely to see a clean sweep from YABAI over Naughtly Crew 3 then the other way. Realistically though expect a 3-1 win from the champions.

Over to Group B and we have the floundering Naughtly Crew “first team” going against Legion of Doom. Legion of Doom of course come in fresh and relaxed after their round two bye whilst Naughtly Crew 1 are currently in panic mode after dropping to 0-2 in the tournament. They desperately need a win to have any chance at making the championship phase but Legion of Doom will also need to add some points to their tally for the same reason.

Kicking off the match up is heavy handed Clint River (NC1) taking on LOD's granite chinned Solomon Grundy. River hasn't yet gotten to show off any of his reported heavy artillery and is actually still looking for his first win after two bouts. Grundy returns after losing an entertaining split decision to Paolo Del Geno in round one. Grundy the slight favourite in a potential fight of the night candidate. At 155lbs we have Naughtly Crew 1 team captain Jake Keane taking on LOD's Bob Probert. 1-1 Keane coming in off a loss looks slightly outgunned against 0-1 Probert but never-the-less will share even odds at the bookies. Reggie Booker (NC1) might have a tough time against undefeated LOD team captain John Rackham although he looks to have progressed well in the gym and has gained the slight edge in key areas of the fight. A very interesting match up at heavyweight with Naughtly Crew's Kevin Mamar taking on the wonderful boxing skills of Richard Anderson. Anderson currently looks like your typical 25 year MMATycoon fighter and will be very dangerous on the feet but Mamar has some wonderful wrestling skills and if he can put that to good use, he might be able to pull off an upset. For now though, Anderson comes in as a heavy favourite.

Prediction: RIP Naughtly Crew 1. It's going to be tough going for them against a solid Legion of Doom team and I fully expect to see them roll over here again. LOD are favourites in most of the match ups and will also be under pressure to get the win and keep up with the rest of the Group B pack. Naughtly Crew 1 are currently sitting at the bottom of pile and they are going to need a miracle to qualify for the champions phase whilst another loss here will make them prime candidates for the bottom phase finals, a place where the dregs and scum of the tycoon alliance world dwell.

Elsewhere in Group B we have an important match up between group leaders Limitless and last years runners up, The Stepdads. Limitless currently lead by one point but with a fight ahead and look to pull off an upset that should guarantee them a spot in the champions phase finals. The Stepdads of course are never going to be an easy team to beat and with a win here would likely take the top spot for themselves.

An excellent opportunity for Limitless in this one as their star flyweight Paolo Del Geno takes on The Stepdads Ricky Greene. Green, unsuccessful in his AWC debut last time out losing by decision to Syndicates Dreynos Elvul, will be the underdog against the 2-0 Del Geno though he certainly looks as though he has been making progress in the gym lately. A fight to keep an eye on at lightweight as The Stepdads team captain Shinji Tomoguchi takes on 2-0 submission wizard Trey Limitless. Tomoguchi goes in as favourite, largely due to the pedigree of his management team though Limitless will no doubt be aching for a chance to take out one of The Stepdads big boys. 185Lbs pits Stepdads Maximus DeMarcus Meridius against similarly styled Heinrich Von Slackenfuches which should be fun but at heavyweight, the paramedics will be standing by as Limitless team captain Slim Towney will try to avoid being decapitated by the much larger Bruce Hood. Hood returning after an impressive first round KO over Sono Tiger and by the looks of things, the bookmakers believe this one is practically a forgone conclusion

Prediction: Limitless have some talented fighters in their team and may be able to pull of a few surprises here but overall The Stepdads are by far the surer bet and I expect them to take the meeting three fights to one.

Moving lastly to the action going on in Group C, our first showdown is between Naughtly Crew 2 and Team Panda. Naughtly Crew 2 still reeling from the defeat against Convicted Inc which dropped them outside of a champions phase spot and will be looking to get back into the mix with a win over a team originally thought to have no chance of competing. Team Panda have since gone some way to alleviate those predictions with a superb victory over Convicted in their opening round match up but now it's time to see whether they are the real deal or just a flash in the pan.

At 135lbs Team Panda team captain Napoleon Panda will meet 1-1 Norman Pike with the bookies believing him to be the favourite. Very much a grappler versus striker match up, Panda's slight edge in the wrestling looks set to pay dividends. At lightweight floundering Brazilian boxer Christian Caliman will be looking to pick up his first win though he faces a tough time against 1-0 Canadian brawler Jacques Turcotte. On paper could be interesting as both are similarly skilled on the feet but Caliman's current form leads us to believe Turcotte takes this one with ease. At 185lbs, Naughtly Crew 2's team captain Anders Thorsen should be able to get the job done against Otto Graf for Team Panda. Graf suffered a record setting fourteen second loss in his AWC debut and will do well not to get caught in the same way. At heavyweight we have a very interesting match up with two fighters from camps with a competitive history. Dick Glover of Naughtly Crew 2 will pit his ground and pound based wrestling against Team Panda's Jacko Dawson and his wonderful Muay Thai clinch game.

Prediction: Quite a tough match up to predict an outcome. Before the tournament started it would have been a no brainer but currently, you might even give Team Panda the nod. Not one fighter from Naughtly Crew 2 really stands out at the moment and in fact they are looking particularly suspect at 155lbs. With that in mind this one could be heading into a 2-2 draw and so quick finishes would be vital in securing the win. Naughtly Crew need this one to put themselves back into contention for the champions phase whereas a win for Team Panda would likely end those hopes. Team Panda currently in second place but on equal points to group leaders FinnFighters would take a massive step towards a place in the winners finals if they can pull off their second win here.

Our last match up of the day features 2020 third place alliance the FinnFighters taking on the recently awoken Convicted Inc. Now that Convicted Inc have shown to have a little fight left in them this match up gets just a little bit more interesting. FinnFighters are currently top of the group after their drubbing of ACME 2 in the last round whilst Convicted managed to climb into third off the back of their victory against Naughtly Crew 2. A lot on the line here for Convicted but also for Finnfighters who have an opportunity to keep themselves on a healthy path to the champions finals.

Kicking things off we have CG Mannheim (FF) taking on 1-1 Nevez Amadaus of Convicted. Amadaus looked much improved in his last bout but still will be a slight underdog against 1-0 Mannheim. Much the same at 155lbs as FinnFighters team captain Rokken Roll takes on Rico Axelrod with Roll being the slight favourite going in. A big test for undefeated Convicted captain Haitian Ginger who comes in as favourite against FinnFighters Oke Swahn. Ginger has shown himself to be extremely adaptable having picked up wins from both submission and strikes but it's likely he'll want to avoid the far superior stand up skills of Swahn who picked up a quick KO win himself during his AWC debut. At heavyweight we have Einar Kyransyyla (FF) taking on Convicted's Genghis Kahn which also looks to lean slightly in FinnFighters favour. Kahn with the edge in the wrestling but overall looks severely outgunned on the feet.

Prediction: Pleased that this one is looking to be a much more competitive match up after the results of round two but there are still too many question marks over the Convicted Inc team to confidently predicting them pulling off the win. FinnFighters looked extremely good in their AWC debut with some very solid individual fighters. Convicted on the other hand look suspect everywhere except middleweight where they will be relying on their team captain Haitain Ginger to show them the way. A win for FinnFighters would give them a very solid footing into the champions phase within a very competitive looking group currently. With one loss already for Convicted they will desperately want to avoid racking up another. Overall the bookies have FinnFighters taking this one around three fights to one.

Round 3 Recap

Group A

Keyboard Warriors were coming into this fresh as a daisy after their round two bye week and they were facing a battle weary ACME 1 who had just gone down in a hard fought loss against defending champions Yabai. Keyboard Warriors were looking to keep the momentum going after their own emphatic win against the champions whilst ACME 1 were just looking to pull off some upsets here and there.

Things didn't get off for a great start for them as captain Devin Russel slumped to his third loss in a row. This time in a first round submission loss against Keyboard Warriors captain Akio Kurosaki that put them behind 5 points to 0.  A much more competitive affair at 155lbs as Keyboard Warriors' Aung Siang and ACME's Torn Brot met inside the cage. Brot's all round gritty skill set kept him in the fight but Siang's superior ground game is likely what swayed the judges and awarded him unanimous decision victory and increased their lead to 7-0. Keyboard Warriors middleweight star Bofur Widenose moved to 2-0 in the AWC after snatching up a second round submission victory over ACME's Gretchen Alexander. Alexander took the first round by most accounts but just wasn't able to keep the pace. With Keyboard Warriors now up 11 points to 0, the match up was out of reach for the ACME boys and the pressure was off for heavyweights Peter Kowalski (ACME) and Felix Suarez (KW). Kowalski was coming in off of a big win over YABAI's Huber Schlesien as too was Suarez. With this win in common between them, the match up was made extra interesting. Suarez got the early takedown and a mad scramble for a submission ensured. In the end it was Suarez who got the victory and the Keyboard Warriors with the clean sweep over a game but outclassed ACME team. Keyboard Warriors win the match up 16 points to 0.

The win wasn't enough for Keyboard Warriors to take the top spot in the group on this occasion but if they keep going the way they are going, it can only be a matter of time. Currently tied on points with leaders YABAI but with a fight in hand, 2-0 Keyboard Warriors are looking very much like becoming a team to beat. They are next scheduled to face Naughtly Crew 3 in Round 4 and with YABAI having their fourth and final group stage bout there, the Keyboard Warriors will have a much clearer idea of where they stand and what they need to do from there.

ACME 1 now move to 1-2 overall and maintain their third place spot. Currently on course for the middle phase finals, they too will be watching the Round 4 proceedings with great interest. Both fourth and fifth place teams are 2 points behind them but with a fight in hand meaning that things could change dramatically should those teams pick up wins. For now though, ACME 1 will enjoy some time to rest up and recoup during their round 4 bye and maybe come back and upset the odds in Round 5.

The other Group A match up featured the current champions YABAI and they would be taking on giant underdogs Naughtly Crew 3. YABAI were coming into this one without the comfort of being able to make any mistakes. With Keyboard Warriors looking as strong as they are, it would be imperative to keep pace with them as far as possible or risk dropping out of a guaranteed qualifying spot. Naughtly Crew 3, though not expected to compete with the top alliances, were coming in off the back of a promising draw against The Guardians last time. With a bit of luck, there would be no reason why they couldn't at least make a push for the champions phase.

The bout everyone had their eyes on was between team captains Stuart Burrows (NC3) and Jay Reepo (YAB) at 135lbs. Reepo of course managed by the highly regarded Bwang Jong Sr and Burrows by up and comer Optimal MMA Picks. Both fighters came out strong and treated the crowd to a D level striking showcase. Burrows the more aggressive fighter, opened up a cut on Reepo before moving to the clinch and dragging the fight to the ground where the fighters were most comfortable. Burrows took round one and started strong in round two but soon the momentum began to shift and after three rounds, Jay Reepo was handed a highly controversial split decision win. Despite the split crowd opinion, the fight earned both fighters “Fight of the Night” Honours. On to the lightweight match up where YABAI's Bishop Bonesteel made short work of Naughtly Crew's Ultimate Warrior. Despite having the superior wrestling pedigree, Warrior was easily taken down and submitted in just twenty four seconds marking his second loss in a row. A similar result at middleweight put the match up out of reach for Naughtly Crew as YABAI's Omer Demirci got the early takedown and quick submission over Tran Quaach soon after. A nice little scrap broke out between heavyweights Huber Schlesien (YAB) and Uncle Abner (NC3) before Schlesien had enough and took the fight to the ground where he was able to force a nice armbar finish before the end of round one. A clean sweep for the champions and a massive 17-0 points sweep to add to their tally.

The win gave YABAI just what they needed and that was another three points to stay top of the Group A table. Things are tight however as they are drawn level on points with Keyboard Warriors but with a fight ahead of them. They will now prepare to go into their final group stage match up where a win will almost certainly guarantee them a spot in the Champions Phase finals.

For Naughtly Crew 3, it was a humbling reminder of their feebleness and blame should surely rest on the slumped and weakly shoulders of their team captain Stuart Burrows. Perhaps if he had given just a little bit more he could have inspired his team onward to an upset victory. With the loss they slink rightly to the bottom of the pile where they are drawn on points with The Guardians but separated by a whopping thirteen fight points. Though technically not impossible to still snag one of the champions phase wildcard spots, a more realistic goal might be to climb out from last place and into the middle phase finals.

GROUP B

Moving into Group B now where Legion of Doom returned from their round two bye to take on the Naughtly Crew “first team”. With only a draw to their name from their first round result, Legion of Doom were looking for points in the the pursuit of a champions phase place whilst Naughtly Crew were on the cusp of oblivion after dropping two match ups in a row and languishing at the bottom of the Group B heap.

Legion of Doom's Solomon Grundy was highlighted as a fighter to look out for at the start of the tournament. After losing a tough split decision in his opening round fight, Grundy's team were looking for improvement. They certainly got that as he edged out a game Clint River from Naughtly Crew. Also looking to make amends from his first round loss was Legion of Doom lightweight Bob Probert. He was facing Naughtly Crew's team captain 1-0 Jake Keane. Keane showed his toughness but Probert completely outclassed him and put his alliance 4-0 up after two decision wins. With things looking rather bleak for the Naughtly boys, their middleweight Reggie Booker stepped up to the plate and put on a superb performance in taking out LOD's team captain John Rackham by first round TKO. The win put Naughtly Crew ahead 5-4 which meant that the big boys would be the deciding match up. Naughtly Crew's Kevin Mamar had suffered a humiliating loss in his opening round fight but had since come back with a decision win over Limitless' Slim Towney. Opponent Richard Anderson (LOD) had also posted a big win over Towney in his first fight meaning that these two had that much in common. It didn't take too long to decide this one as Mamar got the takedown and proceeded to pound Anderson's head into a pulp. Anderson, known for having an absolute chin of iron, only seemed to enjoy it but unfortunately for him, the doctor sitting cageside, did not. Mamar got the first round TKO finish due to a cut and made sure to clinch the win for the Naughtly Crew 1 team.

The defeat put Legion of Doom right down to the bottom of the Group B table and with the competition only getting tougher here, it's going to be a very tough road to qualify for the champions phase finals now. Not saying impossible but with only two group stage match ups left, Legion of Doom cannot afford anything less than a perfect run from here.

For Naughtly Crew 1, the win was a lifeline in their pursuit not to be shit. Already looking like the worst of all the three Naughtly teams, team number one move out from the bottom of the group and into fourth place but still just short of a top eight finish. They now have one more group stage match up left and they will absolute need to win to have any chance of qualifying for the highest tier finals. Even then, their fate will be out of their hands.

A big battle for top of the table in Group B ensued as last years runners up The Stepdads took on surprise early leaders Limitless. The Stepdads were coming in fresh off of their decisive victory against Syndicate where as Limitless were riding high after their victory over Naughtly Crew 1. A lot on the line for both alliances here with both currently in line for a Top 8 finish and a place in the champions phase finals.

A rocky start for Limitless as The Stepdads Ricky Greene made short work of highly regarded prospect Paolo Del Geno picking up a first round submission win and really emphasising the weakness in the white belt ground game of Del Geno. Up next was The Stepdads captain Shinji Tomoguchi and he too was successful when he handed Trey Limitless his first loss after two fights. Shinji himself now moves to 2-0 and is looking like a reliable source of points for his alliance. Exactly what you want from a team captain. Moving on to the middleweight match up, The Stepdads Maximus DeMarcus Meridius put the contest out of reach with a tremendous display of clinchwork against granite chinned Heinrich Von Slackenfuchs and taking the score to 13-0. No consolation win at heavyweight as Limitless captain Slim Towney slumped to his third loss in a row and this time in just sixteen seconds. His opponent Bruce Hood looks set to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor Bubba Wallace. A clean sweep for title challengers The Stepdads and a clear message to the rest of the AWC field. The Stepdads beat Limitless 18-0.

With the victory, The Stepdads take the top of the table after two match ups and still have two more fights to go. Currently looking solid in all areas but particularly at heavyweight and lightweight, The Stepdads are surely going to be moving on into the champions phase finals after a display like today. Still, it's not at all mathematically impossible for them to crash outside of a top eight qualifying place, just highly unlikely at this point.

As for Limitless, whilst this was a rather poor performance from them collectively and they cede their top spot in the group,  they are still very much in contention for a place in the Top 8. Now currently sitting second in the group and clear by one point from closest rivals Syndicate of whom they will meet in their final group stage bout next. A must win for them if they are to guarantee themselves a place in the champions phase final.

GROUP C

Moving over to our third and final group of Group C, Team Panda were taking on Naughtly Crew 2 and aiming to show that their upset win against Convicted Inc in round 1 wasn't a fluke. Naughtly Crew 2 in turn were coming in off of a humiliating loss to said Convicted Inc in their previous match up.

At 135lbs, Stormin' Norman Pike got Naughtly Crew off to a great start after picking up a first round TKO win over Team Panda captain Napoleon Panda. Team Panda closed the gap somewhat when lightweight Jacques Turcotte outpointed Christian Caliman for a 2 point decision win. The loss was Caliman's third in a row and many in the crowd reported hearing remarks that Caliman's manager should stop playing online pool so much when important fights are going down! Naughtly Crew team captain Anders Thorsen came in and secured the victory for them when he defeated Team Panda's Otto Graff in just under four minutes of the first round and at heavyweight the bitter and bloody rivalry between Alfred Winterbottom and Raichu Kong came to a head when their fighters Dick Glover and Jacko Dawson met in the cage. On this occasion it was Glover that took Dawson down and gave him the spanking that he so deserved. 15-2 was the end result and a big win for the Naughtly Crew 2 team.

A devastating loss for the unfancied Panda team who now drop from second place down into fourth and outside of a Top 8 qualifying spot. They still have two more fights to go however so plenty of time to turn things around. Concerns maybe at middleweight as their fighter Otto Graff has now suffered two first round losses in a row but looking solid at lightweight as Canadian brawler Jacques Turcotte picks up his second win in two fights for a five point haul overall.

A much needed win for Naughtly Crew 2 who had slipped outside of a top 8 qualifying spot following their loss to Convicted. They now move up into second place and three points clear of their closest rivals. Big concerns for them at 155lbs as Brazilian boxer Christian Caliman goes 0-3. Whilst two of those three loses were by decision, it has still been a campaign of disappointment for him thus far. With one more fight for them to go in this group stage in order to cement a spot in the champions phase final, Naughtly Crew 2 are going to need to make the most out of their round four bye.

The final round three match up was between last year's third place team FinnFighters and one of MMATycoon's most highly regarded alliances Convicted Inc. The Finns were riding high after their destruction of ACME 2 in round two as too were Convicted Inc who rebounded by beating Naughtly Crew 2 after their shock round one loss to Team Panda  For this match up however, there was only one question on everybody's mind; Following Chris Karter's ban from the forums, would he have the motivation to come back and set everybody's sliders for this one? The answer soon became apparent.

FinnFighters 135lb CG Mannheim needed only thirty-eight seconds to choke out Convicted's Nevez Amadaus to open the scoring at 5-0 whilst team captain Rokken Roll had a much tougher time against Convicted's Rico Axelrod at 155lbs. Axelrod managed to stay the course but by the end of three rounds, it was an easy task for the judges as they declared Roll the winner by unanimous decision. Convicted's team captain (and we're told the only fighter on the team with a pulse) Haitian Ginger brought the score back to a respectable level after securing an armbar finish over Oke Swahn in the first round. The heavyweight fight would decide everything but without their grand dragon Karter pulling the strings, Convicted's Ghengis Kahn was easily dispatched in under a minute of the first round by the unpronounceable Einar Kyrvansyyla. This brutal battering was an easy choice for KO of the night and rounded off another superb performance by the Finns to earn them a 12-5 victory over the zombies of Convicted Dead.

With the win, FinnFighters maintain a strong position at the top of the Group C table. Currently tied on points with Naughtly Crew 2 but with a fight in hand, the Finns are looking like a certainty to march into the champions phase finals. They are still looking strong in most areas but in particularly at 135lbs and 265lbs where CG Mannheim and Einar Kryvaansyyla remain undefeated at 2-0 and both with quick first round victories to their names.

The good name of Convicted Inc is really taking a battering in this tournament so far and this loss to OG alliance FinnFighters must surely sting the pride of what was once a feared and respected group of managers. Instead, they now stagger on like a herd of mindless zombies, barely alive but not quite dead. Seemingly by the magic of their undefeated necromancer Haitian Ginger at 185lbs, the Convicted Dead still cling on to a wild card spot in the final eight but it is a fragile position indeed and Convicted will need a victory in their final upcoming group phase match up to secure it.
