Some fighters would have been finished by that... But yes, def should have tried to stand up after a few of the blows not doing the job and he stopped the flurry. Also many times during the half guard Glover exposed the deep half guard entry. Its a blue belt level sweep. Actually anything but staying flat with both shoulders at the ground. Can either sweep or do like Durinho did with Maia and escape under and to the back: Yes, Glover was way over his league on the ground and obviously that has a big impact on how/why Santos had such a "white level" display. barney Posted November 8, 2020 Report Share Posted November 8, 2020 Who’s worse at BJJ - Santos or Gaethje? IMHO Santos displayed a worse BJJ. Gathje was overwhelmed, but he moved. Santos DID get his half guard reposition from the mount, so its not like a fresh white belt, but that was it. Other than that he was 100% passive, spazzy "white belt hug of death" bjj with flat back on the mat. An advanced white belt would already know at least ONE escape from side control and at least ONE sweep from half guard or hip escape at half guard back into full guard. Deep half entry is not fancy, well done its blue level game. If you reposition from mount into half like he did, you knee shield, stay on your side and the other step would be do the same thing on the other side and get back into full guard. If you stay on half like he did, its because you are going to attack a scissor or halfbutterfly guard sweep or go into deep half (a much more high rate move at higher belts because its a double threat)... He did not follow with either of these, just flat. If I'm not mistaken Gaethje at least did try to move, problem is Khabib was better and passed lol. Glover was just completely comfortable pounding his belly from half guard. EDIT: I mean, I know it looked bad at second round because the way he defended the armbar transitioned directly into the triangle, but thats it, it happened cause he tried to transition.
