That is what a double elimination means mate.

Anyways, your guy will get an initial 150k for winning your part of the bracket, and then another 100k if he wins the final fight.

Just remeber there are 3-4 very good fighters still in the losers bracket,so you might end up fighting someone else.

Until then though, you will get a contract offer from us now (the proper one).

I mean what's this about fighting another bracket? Is he going to end up fighting someone he already beat aggro win this tourney? It really makes no sense to me....

A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only one defeat results in elimination.

The double-elimination format has some advantages over the single-elimination format, most notably the fact that third and fourth places can be determined without the use of a consolation or "classification" match involving two contestants who have already been eliminated from winning the championship.

Some tournaments, such as in tennis, will use "seeding" to prevent the strongest contestants from meeting until the later round. However, in tournaments where contestants are placed randomly in the draw, or in situations where seeding is not available, it is possible for two of the strongest teams to meet in the early rounds rather than a final or semifinal as would be expected in a seeded draw. Double elimination overcomes this shortfall by allowing a strong team which loses early to work their way through the L Bracket and progress to the later rounds, despite meeting the strongest team in the early rounds of competition.

Another advantage of the double-elimination format is the fact that all competitors will play at least twice and three quarters will play three games or more. In a single-elimination tournament with no byes, half of the competitors will be eliminated after their first game. This can be disappointing to those who had to travel to the tournament and were only able to play once. (Fighters fighting more is better for the org, since some guys came here just on a loan. Imagine, I temporarily quit my Org to fight this tourney, lose one fight and Im out. This is both boring for me and for the hosting org. Now if I can do more 2 or 3 fights at a Lower Bracket, its way more fun)

A disadvantage compared to the single-elimination format is that at least twice the number of matches have to be conducted. Since each player has to lose twice and since the tournament ends when only one player remains, in a tournament for n competitors there will be either 2n − 2 or 2n − 1 games depending on whether or not the winner was undefeated during the tournament. This may result in a scheduling hardship for venues where only one facility for play is available. (which doesnt really happen here in MMATycoon -my sidenote)

One such athletic event that employs a double-elimination format is the NCAA baseball tournament, including the College World Series, where a team is not eliminated until it loses twice in each of the four rounds (regional, super regional, College World Series, and CWS championship, with the super regional and CWS championship series featuring two teams in a best-of-3 format). The NCAA softball tournament (including the Women's College World Series) uses the same format. The Little League World Series switched from round-robin to double-elimination formats for each of its pools starting in 2010 in an effort to eliminate meaningless games.

It is also used in video game tournaments and table football tournaments. Double-elimination brackets are also popular in amateur wrestling of all levels, pool, surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding freestyle competitions, as well as Curling bonspiels (where triple-elimination is also used), Hardcourt Bike Polo. The World Baseball Classic used a double-elimination format for its second rounds of the tournament in 2009 and 2013, as well as in its first round in 2009. In contract bridge, the English Bridge Union Spring Foursomes, first contested in 1962, uses a double elimination format.

TLDR
Its great for a high level competition so good players dont fall short just because "group of death".
Also, the losers bracket is fighting weekly, so its not like we wont get to the BIG FINALE all banged up while you rest, you DID have an advantage on the upper bracket...

Think of it like this: the tournament will have 2 interim champions, the Upper Champ and the Lower Champ. The GRAND FINALE will unite those belts.

Empire Grand Prix has finally reached the finals, and wow, did it live up to the hype. It was a milestone for the organization, which has now gone from a complete laughing stock to a bad joke that does not quite hit the mark. Trust me, I know a lot about bad jokes that do not get laughs. Anyways, every match except the main event was finished in just one round. Even the main event lasted a mere 57 seconds into the second round, so none of the events lasted very long. And trust me, I know something about… never mind.

Anyways, onto the fights. Chechen 170 Khabib Chimaev dominated the Finnish Eetu Hyypia, getting the win by TKO with four seconds left in the first round. Chimaev was awfully braggadocious in the post-fight interview, which, while irritating, was backed up by the ground-and-pound performance he put on in the fight.

At 205, Hiski Grang won by KO over Dennis Wagner in just 10 seconds. For context, this sentence will likely take about 10 seconds for you to read. It was that fast. After the match, Grand called out Jerome Biggs. As a wise man once said, “Bold move, Cotton. We’ll see if it pays off for him.”

Back to the 170 weight class, where Dublin native Jimmy Murphy defeated Android Seventeen by armbar 4:36 into the first match. Murphy landed strike after strike on the ground until submitting the American. After the win, Murphy mentioned his website in the post-fight interview. Hah, nerd!

In the heavyweight division, Tavaris Fulton needed just four punch attempts to the head and 24 seconds to get the KO against Lucas Ardin. Ardin had no answers for Fulton’s attack, and found himself on the mat quickly. Fulton also praised the denizens of the internet after the fight. He is also a huge nerd.

In an all African showdown at 170, Moroccan Hadr Bari got the KO on Nigerian Damian Mia in just 3:31. “Sparry” Mia got the takedown he needed early on in the match, but he inexplicably stood up, thus negating his advantage on the ground. He deserved to receive a face-full of fist for that decision alone.

Queens native Jerome Biggs took Russian Petr Tchaikowski to town at 205, ending the match by KO in just 4:20. Tchaikowski attempted an astounding 13 takedowns in this one, but every single one ended up stuffed like a teddy bear at Build-a-Bear Workshop. Biggs showed why he is a top contender at 205.

In the loser’s bracket, Myke Bonner continued the Irish run of wins with a head kick KO win over Danny Peterson. Peterson got wrecked by Bonner’s kicks, and he took just 1:55 to end it via KO. The crowd appreciated this one and the humble, yet determined attitude Bonner showed in his interview.

In the other loser’s bracket showdown, Turkish fighter Ergun Cerrahoglu needed only 47 seconds to KO Akihiro Imanari. Cerrahoglu knocked the Tokyo native to the mat early on, and he did it again right after Imanari got back to his feet. Cerrahoglu looked much sharper than he did in the semi-finals.

In the co-main event, 19 year old heavyweight contenders squared off, but it was another Irish fighter, Cu Chulainn, who came out with the KO in just 31 seconds over Estonian Arnold Kallas. This fight went quickly, with “The Hound” dominating. After the match, Chulainn asked for a title shot, one he will get at Empire XI on a short turnaround.

In the Empire Grand Prix finals, Thai fighter and pre-tournament favorite Ricardo Morra Jr. dominated Hukkleberry Flint in a match that somehow went into the second round. The Belgian was cut early on in the clinch and never had a chance after that. Morra Jr. stuffed seven takedown attempts from the wrestling specialist Flint. Meanwhile, “Monkey Style” landed an astounding 34 punches to the head and 10 punches to the body, all of which in the clinch. The fact that Flint lasted that long is a testament to his chin, but Morra Jr. has all the makings of not only a future Empire champion, but a future top dog in the 145 division on the global stage.

Thanks for the explanation Barney. Its a good idea in theory. But I'd expect Flint who lost the final to win the losers bracket and they Morra fights him twice.

Also, I understand what you are saying Scotty. Fighting a tf spammer twice in a roll sucks.

IRL I've seen this situation happen (team lost the upper bracket final, won lower bracket final and played again immediately against the same team they lost... And they ended up winning the tournament). It can happen. But it was actually really nice to watch and the Gran finale haf lots of hype.

I think if people roleplayed a little bit more into this and created real smack talk hype in here, this format would be "go to" for epic high prizes

  • 2 weeks later...

Wow...what a tense finale that was...a fight that saw two contrasting fighting styles being shown to the full extent by both the warriors out there...and a fight which frankly could have gone either way...But,as always, there could only be one winner...and therefore, I want to congratulate Mr.Ricardo Morra Jr,the winner of the Empire 145lbs GP,who in all honesty, absolutely smashed through everyone in this tourney, and in the end...fully deserved to win this GP.

But not just that...i want to also thank every manager who had sent their fighter to compete in this tourney, cause without the participants, this tourney would have turned out to be a grand failure...but alas, with your help, and your fighter's fantastic performances...this tourney has been a very successful one.

So once again, thank you guys, and i hope you guys loved this tourney as much as i did,and that you guys will join us again, for the 185lbs tourney that is going to take place shortly.

Matty

Note: GP winner Mr.RICARDO MORRA Jr
