HFC 93 - Nascimento vs Wanker

1627742597HFC%2093.gif

Main Event:
Yago Nascimento vs Massive Wanker

Nascimento
Record:  10-3  (6-3 HFC)
Key Wins:  Sergey Telegin, Chris Travis
Key Losses: Joao Andrade, Xmus Jaxon Flaxon Waxon

Wanker
Record: 18-2 (10-2 HFC)
Key Wins:  Jason Mendoza, Boris Krylov, Doug Slugs
Key Losses: Leif Leifsson, Olli Lindholm

Thoughts:  This main event should be fireworks.  But unfortunately, since changing management, Wanker has been a bit of a disappointment.  Granted, his last two matches were both against top flight fighters fighting under team Bjorn, but from an 18-0 record to two strait losses has many HFC fans scratching their heads.  Is this the time for Wanker to get back into form that he dominated with for the majority of his career?  Not to take anything away from Nascimento, he's at a 10-3 record and no slouch himself.  He had to beat a former title contender in Telegin to get here.  And he knows that a win over the Wanker will vault him into title contention himself.

Co-Main Event:

Davdio Branko vs Justin Case

Branko
Record: 11-6 (1-1 HFC)
Key Wins:  Charles Manson, Lorenzo Bataglia
Key Losses:  Petchuanglek Sitsongrit, Kiril Bohizdar

Case
Record:  10-4  (3-0 HFC)
Key Wins: Darken Rahl, Lorenzo Bataglia
Key Losses: Ryoto Takahashi, Jack Waller

Thoughts:  These two fighters that I really haven't had much time in the HFC.  Both spending the bulk of their careers in BBFC, both having a lot of success there.  Branko is off to a 1-1 start in HFC while his opponent is 1-0 since his return to HFC.  But, many will forget that Case was an HFC original with a 2-0 record before moving to BBFC due to ID restrictions.  Case now finds himself back in HFC and hasn't missed a beat.  His opponent is no pushover, but you can bet that Case has a plan to win.. you know, just in case...

Main Card:

Miami Vice vs Scooter Bob

Vice
Record:  9-3 (8-2 HFC)
Key Wins:  Akhmed Dudayev, Malcolm King, Olyn Seran
Key Losses:  Ed Ford, Guilherme Goncalves, Saggy Dinglestomper

Bob
Record:  13-6 (4-1 HFC)
Key Wins:  Death Minister, Akhmed Dudayev, Samuel Rodrigues
Key Losses:  Ziggy Stardust, Conor Butcher, Samuel Rodrigues

Thoughts:  These two guys know how to win.  With Vice, he's had huge wins over the likes of Dudayev, King, Seran, Rodriguez, and the list goes on.  He's lost to two former champs, and Dinglestomper very early on in his career.  Under new management, and a new name, we'll see if he brings a new game to the cage in his debut fight under the notoriou Pablo Spezziale.  Expect this man to be ready to go as he has taken a step up in management and will be looking to put on a show to land himself as a contender.  With the new rankings coming out in a few days, he's looking to make a statement.  But don't sleep on his opponent as Scooter Bob comes in and also has a hell of a resume with 3 consecutive wins and 6 of his last 7, including wins over the likes of Minister, Merel, Dudayev, Rodrigues, and again, the list goes on.  We surely have a war in the makings for this one and both fighters will be looking for a staple win to vault themselves into the title picture.

John Bessant vs Jolly Roger

Bessant
Record:  16-11 (6-7 HFC)
Key Wins:  Alex Silva, Eric Brooks
Key Losses:  Xmus Jaxon Flaxon Waxon, Aingot Nofud, Malcolm King

Roger
Record:  11-10 (1-1 HFC)
Key Wins:  Crixus the Gaul, Clinch King Smash Machine
Key Losses: Crixus the Gaul, Igor Warlovski, Fistin Cider

Thoughts:  Well, not quite the same caliper of fighters that we had in the other main cards, but these two guys have a lot of experience and will be fairly evenly matched coming into this one.  Bessant having an edge standing, and Roger having an edge on the ground.  Now, we all know all fights start standing, so Roger will need to come in with a solid gameplan to be able to get this fight to the ground to have a chance.

Undercard:

White Rain vs Joad Cressbeckler
Conor Butcher vs Alec Wolfe
Aleksandar Volkanovski vs Dillon Van Barle
Minerva Wulf vs Joanne River
Brooke Marsden vs Marton Csemy
Quintet Tarantino vs Enzo Mendoza

Weekend wrap-up

Hey HFC faithful!  We had not one, but two cards this weekend.  I did a preview on one and never even realized we had a 2nd in store.  So I apologize for the lack of a preview, but in all honesty, I haven't had time to do it either.

Saturday night we had a good one on tap as Wanker dropped his 3rd strait, only this time by a split decision.  A very close fight and honestly, one that I thought he was going to turn things around in.  As my ex would tell you however, I was wrong!  We also saw Justin Case on the wrong end of an armbar, several KO's from Vice, Bessant, and Van Barle but not to leave out the great TKO beatdowns from Wulf and Csemy!  Tarantino also put himself in the spotlight opening things up with a triangle choke out of Enzo Mendoze!

FotN:
Joad Cressbeckler vs White Rain
We had a few candidates for FotN in this one, but I let the fans speak for the winner of this one.  With an 82% approval rating, the fans spoke loud and clear that this was the fight they appreciated the most that lasted any sort of length.  Going the distance, and full of action, I had no problem in handing this award to these two warriors.

KotN:
Marton Csemy
Not all that often do we have so many potential candidates for KO of the Night, but this card was full of slobber knockers!  As I mentioned, we had 3 KO's and 2 TKO's on this card, literally half the fights ended in a beat down!  This was a very tough decision as all KO's are great to see, but once again, the fans voted and we have to applaud Csemy for getting thigs going early on with this early 2nd round TKO that had the fans on their feet from the early goings!

SotN:
Davdio Branko
Our submission of the night came in our co-main event where Branko took it to Justin Case!  Knowing that Case had the edge standing, Branko made it his mission to get this fight on the ground and was just too much for Case to handle while down there.  The best part about this submission is that everyone saw it coming, including Case, and he just couldn't do anything to stop it.

In Sunday's card, we had 3 TKOs, 3 submissions, 3 decisions, and a draw!  Talk about a full spread!  Out of all of this action, the biggest surprise to me was that of Georges Moxley.  Moxley used to be a renown striker well known in the HFC.  But under new management, he's rounded out his ground game and has now found himself with two consecutive submission wins!

FotN:
Boris Krylov vs Blake Phoenix
I knew this card would be fire and it did not disappoint.  Krylov has been in the title picture the majority of his HFC career.  He's held the belt on multiple occasions and has looked for fights all over the land to put his skills to the test.  Phoenix is another who has been a champion before as he had one hell of a run with Checkmate until losing that belt and his career was a bit derailed.  Of late, after taking on new management, he'd gone 2-0 coming into this one and was ready to throw down with Krylov.  These two went at it for three rounds with a ton of punches thrown, but Krylov mixed things up with a lot of kicks mixed in and that gave him the easy decision victory in the judges eyes.  But these two gladiators went at it and never backed down.  Krylov didn't bleed out and leave the fight in the hands of the doctor, and Phoenix didn't let Krylov's power get to him and showed his thick skin.  Great fight all around, and well deserved FotN!

KotN:
Bobby Chunks
Three fights to choose from here, but the main event took the cake as Bobby Chunks put down Anton Gardner in the 2nd round.  Being as this fight capped off the evening and a brutal elbow did the damage that called the ref to jump in and stop the fight, this one took the award.  We all know I love elbow finishes just as Mr. Tito Ortiz used to do in his prime!  Something brutal and primal about a man who bashes another man's skull in with elbows!

SotN:
Georges Moxley
As I mentioned, the shocking result of the fight (in my eyes) was Moxley and his quick, and I mean QUICK finish of Sukulaku.  Not even going a full minute, the outstanding striker took this fight to the ground and after a quick reversal by Sukulaku, Moxley locked in an armbar with the quickness of a viper strike!  The announcers and crowd alike were stunned and jumped to their feet with such a fantastic finish!  Well earned, my man!

That's all the time we have tonight, but some great fights and check out the cards for the full list of results as there were a ton of great fights on these two cards!

Fight of the Night:
Baruto Tonissaar  VS  Winston Todd

What can I say?  This fight had it all.  It was a title fight, it went the distance, and these two warriors beat the bloody piss out of each other for three full rounds!  Tonissaar came out in the end with the win and by the numbers would appear that his working over the legs of Todd gave him that edge.  Todd will most likely be staying off his legs for a couple of days, no doubt those things are blue and purple before he wakes up in the morning.

KO of the Night:
Bobby Minnagh

We had only three fighters qualify for this fight, but this one was the only pure KO.  That did not lock in the award for Bobby, but when you drop a guy and roll his eyes in the back of his head before he ever hits the ground, it goes a long way.  Especially when the commentators jump to their feet screaming about the brutality of the blow.

Submission of the Night:
Rimtas Kentas

Only two fighters qualified for this award, and even though the particular type of submission was a little more impressive from Bartasz, the way that Kentas worked and locked in his Kimura with such quickness to start the second round gave him the nod in this one.

Saggy Dinglestomper

"Oh, this is some kind of weak bullshit right here!  What a way to weasel out of a title fight!  WTF is it with people not making weight lately, our team just had this happen over at Highland as well this past week.  C'mon people!  Waste of my MoF'n time!"

Co-main event

Juodasis Vaiduoklis really struggled with his weight cut for this fight. After coming in at 149.8, he had two hours to cut the additional weight. He was unable to do so and as a result, his fight with Saggy Dinglestomper was cancelled.
So, the belt remains unclaimed. Very disappointing for everyone involved!

HFC 113 Preview

Unknown vs. Legions

Middleweight bout –

This should be a great fight with two all around MMA practitioners. Legions possesses the slightest edge in boxing while Unknown carries the same advantage in the clinch. The widest gap between these two fighters is in their jiu-jitsu. Unknown will enter the cage as a jiu jitsu black belt. Both men should be hungry to get a quick finish because both have a lengthy history of losing decisions. If this fight enters the third round it could simply be a war over who has the most left in the tank.

Billings vs. Catch Wrestler

Welterweight bout –

Sometimes the MMA Gods present a matchup that even the casuals can pick the winner. This is a bounce back fight for Catch Wrestler. Billings is 3-6. Billings has been flirting with kickboxing. Billings is 0-5 in decisions. That track record combined simply with the ground advantage Catch Wrestler possesses ensures he will be victorious. Those in Billings camp have one good counterpoint; Catch Wrestler has been KO’ed 5 times (2 in his last 3 fights). Billings 3 wins in 10 fights is lackluster without a doubt, but all 3 victories were via T(KO). I’d put the house on Catch Wrestler and pray Billings doesn’t connect on the feet.

Cortez vs. Mattressback

Woman’s Bantamweight bout –

This is an exciting matchup between two ground fighters. If Cortez leaves Saturday with a victory, it would signal an ability to hang with the absolute best on the ground. Mattressback is hoping to hold off the prospect with her own ground game performance or by displaying a clear striking advantage against Cortez. If this fight goes to the mat it is worth watching, but if takedowns are hard to come by, this will look like amateur stand up.

Wasselach vs Mahrishi

Light Heavyweight bout –

Wasselach needs to get the fight to the ground, and he needs to get Mahrishi down early. Mahrishi has displayed a quick killer instinct inside of the cage. Mahrishi has not obtained a single stoppage in his career past the second round. Wasselach needs grind Mahrishi’s energy down from the ground to gain an advantage later in the fight. Mahrishi will be looking to make Wasselach pay for early takedown attempts with solid takedown defense. If Mahrishi can keep the fight standing and hold knockout power past the 2nd round, he will be extremely dangerous. Expect an early war if this remains standing, and an all-around classic for at least the first two rounds. Do not let the hype train fool you, Wasselach is as much in this fight as any other.

Jaxon Flaxon Waxon vs. Roger

Light Heavyweight bout –

Roger holds a clear advantage in jiu jitsu that if he gets in a position for a submission he is likely to hit it. On the feet it should be a real slugfest with either fighter likely to get knocked out. 17 KO losses between the two of them does not create a scenario where this fight lasts very long. If this stays on the feet, Jaxon Flaxon Waxon has the power advantage, but on the ground the threat of the submission will be from Roger. Interesting battle of styles.

Rain vs. Woods

Welterweight bout –

My hardcore fans have been clamoring for this matchup. Two fighters who match up equally and have displayed throughout their 20 plus fight careers that they can go the distance no matter where the fight takes place, that makes for an interesting fight. It truly is a toss up in this one, and the first round should be the biggest clue as to who has the better gameplan. It would not be a surprise to see these two cross paths again regardless of the result.

Theorist vs. Mane

Lightweight bout –

Can Mane continue to keep his chin safe? That’s the biggest question of this fight. A lot of fans have been hopping on his bandwagon as he enters this bout with a 4 fight win streak. Mane can win this fight easily if he can take it to the ground. His black belt should afford him some advantages. Across the cage is no slouch though. Theorist enters this bout with a clear power advantage on the feet. Mane will not be able to strike blow for blow with Theorist. If Theorist can keep the fight on the feet than he has the best chance of winning. Does Theorist turn a corner? Or does Mane prove he is ready to move up the rankings?

Mataitai vs. The Gaul

Light Heavyweight bout –

Both of these fighters are big knockout artists who have a history of being knocked out. Will Mataitai be mentally prepared after his last defeat? This is a fight that could take place anywhere, but if it remains standing then I would expect a knockout.

Higgins vs. Phoenix

Light Heavyweight bout –

The co-main event is sure to be a great fight. Both come in as winners in 4 of their last 5 fights. Both have shown the ability to go the distance. Phoenix has to feel comfort in that he has displayed the stronger chin throughout his career, but Higgins brings 8 wins via TKO into the cage with him. Phoenix enters as the more rounded fighter, but balance means nothing if Higgins is able to overpower him.

Mcguire vs. Randleman

Light Heavyweight Title bout –

The main event of the evening is highlighted by two of the best light heavyweight fighters in the world. Mcguire enters the cage on a 3 fight win streak and hoping to continue his title reign in the 205 pound division. He brings with him KO power and an advantage on the mat. Randleman has also shown he can sling leather, and I would expect tonight to be no different. Randleman has lost 5 of his 6 fights that have gone the distance. It will be imperative for him to not let this fight go into deep waters on the ground over the full 5 rounds. If both fighters go for the knockout this will be one to remember for awhile, but if Mcguire can bring Randleman down it could be a slow a grueling 5 rounds to end the night.
