- Checkmate Fight Night 14 Preview -
160651662120201127_173642.jpg
Checkmate Fight Night 14 has some exciting debuts, veterans, up and comers, former champs, and more!
Kicking off the card we will get to see #5 George Kane (1-2)(1-1 in CC) vs Fightertwo For Money (5-5)(0-1 in CC)
I've said it before and I'll say it again, a lot of people believe that despite his record, Kane will be the next big thing in Checkmate's 185 division and this fight will be a great test to see if what people say is true!
Fightertwo For Money has more than triple the experience of his opponent and will look to put that alongside his great standup skills on display against the steam-train that is George Kane!
The second fight of the night will be #9 Yair "El Pantera" Rodriguez (6-4)(2-2 in CC) vs Anderson "Senna" Beach Boy (5-5)(3-3 in CC)
I can already tell that this is gonna be a barn burner of a fight between these two highly skilled Featherweight! Oh and just a side note, Rodriguez just fought last weekend and is already making a quick turnaround for this one!
Up next is a Welterweight bout between #10 Jorge Adesanya (5-5)(5-4 in CC) and (#5-LW) Manco Capac (4-3)(2-2 in CC)
Adesanya has danced with some of the best in his division and now with his best dancing boots on will look to welcome the #5 ranked Lightweight that is moving up to Welterweight in highly talented Manco Capac.
The fourth bout of the night will be at Heavyweight and it will be #10 Mariano "Fuego" Medrano (4-1)(1-0 in CC) vs Earnie Shavers (4-3)(3-3 in CC)
#10 ranked Mariano will be putting his ranking on the line against Checkmate vet Earnie Shavers in what will be a heavy-handed Heavyweight bout!
Up next is a 155 bout with Carlos Rogan (4-5)(3-5 in CC) vs "The Lion" Kraisee Watakeekul (5-1)(0-0 in CC)
Rogan will be looking to spoil the debut of Watakeekul in this bout and Watakeekul will do everything to make sure that doesn't happen!
Up next we will see a Middleweight bout when we see #4 Mitch Malone (5-2)(5-2 in CC) vs Luke Glanton (1-1)(0-0 in CC)
Malone is a tried and true Checkmate vet and his only losses are to the current champ Manco Unknown and top contender Ispa Murksa, and he has wins over former champ One Wonder and former top contender Obama Filth.
This fight will be Glanton's first with Checkmate and he wants to start his Checkmate journey with a bang by taking out one of the top 5 in the division right off the bat! One thing to keep an eye out for with Glanton is his boxing skills, he is an amazing boxer and would love nothing more than to get a TKO/KO finish.
Up next is a huge Lightweight rematch between #2 Paulo "The Beast" Correia (6-2)(3-2 in CC) and #4 Kaino Ukkonen (4-2)(3-2 in CC)
Correia got the victory in their first outing and is hungry to get back in the win column after losing his last bout to Greg Conner, which is no shameful loss but it still leaves a bad taste in his mouth.
After his outing with Correia, Ukkonen has gone a near flawless 3-1 in Checkmate, picking up wins against Manco Capac, Edgar Bravo, and Lioque Yupanqui. Now he wants to increase his ranking and threat level by taking Correia out.
In the Co-Main event, we will see Former Featherweight Champ #6 Rikuto "The Dragon" Ryuunosuke (7-3)(4-3 in CC)(FC) vs Former Featherweight Title Challenger #10 "Krazy Horse" Chase Buchanan (5-4)(3-3 in CC)
Ryuunosuke is a high-level grappler that has 6 submission wins to his name, he is the former 145 HFC, Conquest, and Checkmate champion and he also was the first 145 champ for all three of those! He also has a win over current 145 champ and #1 P4P fighter Emiliano Blackburn, and with a win over another ranked contender like Buchanan, it would put him just a little closer to that trilogy fight with Blackburn. If you're like me and love to see some grappling, keep your eyes on Ryuunosuke cause I am sure he will try to drag this one to the mats and look to pull off one of his signature submissions!
But first, he must get through the very tough Chase Buchanan.
Buchanan made his Checkmate debut back in May of this year, he debuted against the current #4 ranked contender Donald Fisher, he won that bout by way of submission with an armbar. He then turned around and faced Lonnie Donegan who was a perfect 3-0 at the time, he also won that bout by way of submission, this time due to an RNC. After that win he earned a title shot against Magnificent Chulalongkorn, he came up short in that bout and has since lost 2 other bouts against the #7 and #5 ranked contenders. Now he is very eager to break that skid and pick up a huge win.
In our MAIN EVENT of the night we will get the honor to see #3 Hurricane Defoe (5-1)(5-1 in CC) vs #7 "Molotov" Omir Stalingrad (5-3)(2-2 in CC)
Las Vegas Native Hurricane Defoe is a striker that loves to get KOs, all 5 of his wins have been by way of TKO/KO and 3 of those were flush knockouts, and he also carries KO power in his legs as he got a head kick KO in his Checkmate debut which was also his Pro MMA debut as well. The 22-year-old already has picked up some big wins over top contenders in his young career, defeating names such as Willy Graham, Fabinho Tavares, Clinch King Smash Machine, Gilberto Silva, and most recently and arguably the biggest, Zane Alexander. His resume is already crammed packed with high-level killers, but the question is can he add a win over a killer like Stalingrad to his resume?
Stalingrad is a very well rounded fighter that has really big potential for this division, He made his debut back in July of this year against Alen Zalac where he got the win by way of a unanimous decision, he then lost to Bobby Bryant by KOat Checkmate Fight Night 9, but then turned around and picked up the biggest win of his career at Checkmate Championship 7 when he squared off against Mason Edwards who was 8-1 at the time and Stalingrad shocked everyone by shutting his lights off late in the first round! Stalingrad's record inside Checkmate has been 50/50 so far but there is no doubt he can scrap with the top of the division, and a win over a man like Defoe would certainly prove that and send a message to the 205 division that he is one to beat!
And special shoutout to our new merch partner!!!

265 lbs, Checkmate Championship 355K+

Jax Chambers (355121)

9-1-0

"Nice, after defending my belt I move from #3 to #4 p4p, wait, that's the opposite of what's supposed to happen, media out smoking with Karter before the vote again."

Sorry, I hated having to do that! The reason I had to is because the #1 PFP fighter lost to the #4 PFP fighter so the #4 became #1 and it pushed all the fighters from #1-#3 down a ranking and that unfortunately included Chambers. We still hold him very highly in the rankings and are very much looking forward to his next fight!

After winning his last two fights in a row, Carlos Vilarreal has been told that if he wins his next fight not only is his place at Yellow Lotus gym secure, but his manager will even pay for his next tattoos on his teeth.

I also heard if he wins his next fight it could lead to a huge fight against a top 5 contender after in which case he could definitely showcase his fresh ink with a smile!

- Checkmate Championship 17 Preview -

1609450620Checkmate.gif

Let's get this year started off right with an awesome night full of top ranked fighters facing off against each other for all the glory!

Kicking off the card we will see two Heavyweights that want so badly to get back into the win column when we see Jingky Bacolod (5-6)(1-6 in CC) take on Maris Lakis  (3-6)(1-4 in CC)

Both have what it takes to turn their careers around, but who will start that journey first?!

Up next will be a Welterweight tilt that's sure to keep the fans on edge when #7 Pedro Vela (6-5)(4-4 in CC) takes on #8 Manco Capac (5-3)(3-2 in CC)

A big fight for the 170-pound division against two ranked fighters!

Next, we have a highly anticipated Light-Heavyweight bout between two of the division finest when #3 Hurricane Defoe (6-1)(6-1 in CC) faces #6 Gabriel Creed (5-3)(5-3 in CC)

We will surely get a treat early in this card with this fight, both men are extremely gifted at what they do!

In our fourth bout of the night, we will get to see a high-level Featherweight bout when we see #5 Donald Fisher (8-4)(4-3 in CC) vs #7 Chase Buchanan (7-4)(5-3 in CC)

Both men are top contenders with a lot to prove!

Kicking off our main card we will get to see former champion and #2 ranked Joad Cressbeckler (8-2)(4-2 in CC)(FC) take on rising superstar and #3 ranked Darry Curtis (5-1)(4-1 in CC)

Joad was the very first 170 champion and has fought most of the top contenders of the division, and now wants to add Curtis to that list.

Curtis has had some great outings with Checkmate and has really shown he can have a very bright future.

Next, up in Heavyweight we will see another familiar face to the championship hall when former Heavyweight champ, current #2 ranked Heavyweight and #14 ranked P4P fighter, Jon Nolan (12-3)(10-3 in CC)(FC¹) take on the hungry and undefeated force that is #7 ranked Ashwin Tyson (4-0)(3-0 in CC)

Jon Nolan is a true vet for Checkmate and he is the inaugural Heavyweight champion who is on a quest to try to take back what once was his!

Tyson is an undefeated powerhouse that has some great potential, but first, he must get past his biggest test to date.

Then we will get to see a Middleweight bout between the former Middleweight champ and current #1 ranked Middleweight, as well as the #11 P4P fighter, Bhishma Chontamenti (7-3)(6-1 in CC)(FC), take on the #4 ranked middleweight Mitch Malone (7-2)(7-2 in CC) in a bout that could lead to another title shot for either man.

Chontamenti is sick and tired of being teased by his younger brother about losing his Checkmate belt and wants to get back in talks of a title shot to shut him up and take back what he lost to Manco.

Malone has big wins over top talent such as Obama Filth, One Wonder, Abayomrunkoje Oni, Luke Glanton, and George Kane, and with a win over Bhishma, I think he would be the next one line for another shot at that title.

In our Co-Main event of the night, we will the Middleweight belt up for grabs when current champion and #6 ranked P4P fighter (C²) Manco Unknown (10-2-1)(6-1-1 in CC) takes on the soaring #2 ranked middleweight Kotaro Kikuta (5-3)(5-2 in CC) in a matchup you don't wanna take your eyes off of!

The champ Manco Unknown is fresh off of his super fight against BFC's middleweight champ Winston Todd back at Checkmate vs BFC 1, which ended in a FOTN split draw, both Unknown and Todd gave it everything they had for the full 25 minutes for what was an amazing showcase of talent. Unknown now will be looking to make his third successful title defense overall and first since losing and regaining his belt. He was the first fighter to knock the inaugural champ One Wonder off his throne atop the division and then went on to defend his belt two times against the likes of Bot #1 (Name was "First Name" at the time) and Mitch Malone , he then lost in his third attempt at defending his belt to a man we will also see on this card in Bhishma Chontamenti, Manco then turned around and got his belt back from Bhishma back at Checkmate Championship 15, now he will be looking to add another name to his championship resume.

That name is none other than Kotaro Kikuta who has looked very dominant in his last showings. His start in Checkmate was rocky but he quickly turned it around by going on a 4 fight winning streak against some very tough competition, he has a perfect 100% finishing rate for all 5 of his wins, and 3 of those were in the first round. Kotaro has quietly been becoming a superstar in his own right, he personally really surprised me when he took out Ispa Murska back at Checkmate Contenders 8, Murska is one heck of a fighter and Kikuta was able to get him out of there early in the second round. He then turned around and welcomed Darrion Moss to his highly anticipated Checkmate debut, where Kikuta was able to take him out also early in the second round, and his wins over Fightertwo For Money, Karl Beilstein, and Ryan The Son Of God also did not go unnoticed, as all 3 of them were all TKO/KO in the very first round.

Although to many, Manco is a huge favorite in this fight, Kotaro has shown some great talent and could very well pull off a big upset in a big way!

Then lastly for our MAIN EVENTTTT of the night, we will get to see a true work of art inside the cage when the newly crowned Light-Heavyweight champion and #4 ranked P4P fighter, (C) Choctaw Bloode (7-2)(4-2 in CC) when he takes on seasoned checkmate vet #4 ranked Clinch King Smash Machine (7-3)(7-3 in CC)

The newly crowned man sitting on top of the 205 throne is a native you don't wanna mess with, Choctaw Bloode had a dark and rough upbringing, he had to go an extra mile just to get a fair trade. Nothing has been easy for Bloode and that includes his MMA career, in fact, he was 0-2 in his first two outings with Checkmate, he got placed into Checkmate Hunting Gold right in his debut when he was 3-0, he lost out in the first round to Mason Edwards, he then turned around and faced Zane Alexander and took another loss but this time by way of Unanimous Decision, but just like in his everyday life he didn't give up, he dusted himself off and proved everyone that doubted him wrong, he faced Zhang Wu in August of this year, he defeated Wu by TKO in the very first round, he then turned around to face Hurricane Defoe who was a perfect 4-0 at the time with all of his wins being over top names in the division, Bloode was victorious in that fight with a Unanimous decision win. The list of superstars he fought didn't stop there, no not at all, he then faced Bjorn Akerfeldt who was a big prospect for Checkmate, Bloode got him out of there in the second round. Then he was offered the biggest fight of his MMA career and that was to take on the world-renowned undefeated Light-Heavyweight champion Blake Phoenix who had just been on an absolute tear and had a long list of wins over top contenders and former champions under his belt, the fight on paper looked to heavily favor Phoenix but Bloode suited up with his native headdress and remembered that hatchet that was his grandfathers when he returned back to the pile of dust he had called home and it sparked something inside him, something scary, something that made him not only take out Phoenix but do it nearly flawlessly, something no one else had even got close to doing to Phoenix, but at last Bloode did it, and he became the Checkmate Light-Heavyweight Champion of the world, and now he will put that belt on the line and put his headdress on once more for his first title defense against a fellow monster in the cage.

That said monster is a man if you have been around Checkmate from the early days I have sure you have heard his name a few times. Clinch King "Razor" Smash Machine was apart of Checkmate before Checkmate even had champions and all divisions rankings were just top 5, Machine sat in the #1 spot for 205 for a while in the early days and has always been one of the best in the division he made his pro-MMA debut back at Checkmate's second-ever event "Checkmate Fight Night 2" back in February of this year, he took on very talented wrestler Willy Graham who he eventually would go on to meet again in the cage at Checkmate Contenders 1. Machine has arguably the best clinch game of anyone in all of Checkmate, most of the time if he gets you in his clinch you are gonna go to sleep, Machine has some nasty knees and elbows that have been sharpened by the jaws of his opponents over the years, he has a 100% finish rate and all of his wins have come by way TKO and they have all been do to his damaging work inside the clinch. We have seen Machine stumble in the past against the likes of Gabriel Creed and Hurricane Defore, but the things he has done in his victories overlook those defeats. Machine has been training really hard for his last outings and you can really tell by his performances, and of course, his clinch game is always improving, which is a very scary thought. Long story short, if you are facing Machine, make sure you avoid getting into a clinch fight with him at all costs or it might just cost you your consciousness.

This bout is gonna be one for the history books, you have the hungry newly crowned champ looking for his first defense against the absolute beast that has been around forever and has always stayed in the high talks for the division, makes for an amazing matchup that nobody should miss!
