The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. A jab from De Vries finds it's way through Makoniko's defenses. Stefan De Vries seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. De Vries scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. A lazy left from De Vries finds it's target. A cross from De Vries lands. De Vries lands a head shot. De Vries throws a nice looking combination but Makoniko bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Makoniko is looking to counter the offense by De Vries and move into the clinch. De Vries bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Makoniko's head. De Vries thuds a left hand into Makoniko's body. That's one minute gone in the round. De Vries jabs Makoniko to the body, keeping him at a distance. Makoniko closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Makoniko takes one to the side of the head.
De Vries lands a big uppercut and Makoniko crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Makoniko looks OK. De Vries waves Makoniko back to his feet! Makoniko is rocked! It looks like Jay Makoniko has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. De Vries scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. De Vries steps in with a hook that catches Makoniko right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! De Vries follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Makoniko looks absolutely devastated.
