PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Moganesh Jain (ranked 592 p4p, 28 weight class) and Georges St. Georges (ranked 988 p4p, 50 weight class). Jain's entrance music is The Monkey King. A fine choice. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Georges St. Georges was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Moganesh Jain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Georges St. Georges!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jain lands a straight punch to the body, keeping St. Georges at a distance.
St. Georges changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jain tries to avoid it but St. Georges manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jain to the ground. Jain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jain swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

St. Georges moves into range and clinches up with Jain.

St. Georges can't find room to land a body shot as Jain controls the action.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that St. Georges has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

St. Georges wants the takedown. Jain is fighting it off but St. Georges persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jain's guard against the cage.

St. Georges got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jain has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, St. Georges has managed to get both his arms back between Jain's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
St. Georges is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jain sees it coming and defends easily.
Jain wants to control but St. Georges is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jain wants to improve his position but St. Georges is controlling well.
St. Georges is looking to take a break and control but Jain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

St. Georges passes Jain's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jain is looking for a sweep. St. Georges is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jain is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at The Clinic, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
St. Georges wants to free his trapped foot but Jain is holding on for dear life with his legs.

enabling Jain to counter with a crisp jab.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

St. Georges has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Moganesh Jain.
I think St. Georges has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Georges St. Georges decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
