Coming up we have a light heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Shawn Briggs (ranked 5557 p4p, 479 weight class) and Grey Ape (ranked 5708 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Shawn Briggs! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Helsinki, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; Grey Ape!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Igor Prikhodko and Ivan Kurochkin.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Briggs tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ape swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Ape clinches.
Ape changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Briggs fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Briggs tries to clinch but Ape moves out of range.

Briggs darts in and clinches Ape up against the cage.
Ape drops down looking for an ankle pick but Briggs pulls his leg out and moves away.

Ape rushes Briggs and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Briggs tries to pull guard but Ape won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ape tries to score a body lock takedown but Briggs shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Shawn Briggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Grey Ape.
Briggs is trying to pull guard but Ape turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Briggs is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Ape has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Briggs avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Briggs pulls guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Briggs is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Ape is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Briggs working a defensive guard but Ape passes into half guard.
Briggs regains full guard. Nicely done.
Briggs pulls Ape in close to prevent any damage.
Briggs could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Briggs tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ape wants to pass the guard but Briggs is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Briggs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ape doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ape manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ape wants to control from the top but Briggs keeps moving.

Briggs looking for a guillotine here but Ape defends easily.
Briggs looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Briggs trying to keep a closed guard but Ape is proving a slippery customer.
Ape must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ape seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Briggs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ape gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Briggs is controlling Ape's posture.

Ape trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Briggs working for a triangle but Ape defends it easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Briggs has an active guard here but Ape has managed to pass into half guard.
Briggs wants to get back to full guard.

Ape is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Briggs is looking for a sweep. Ape is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Briggs tries to get to full guard but Ape has control of the leg.
Well, if Ape is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Ape is posturing up here but Briggs has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Ape tries to roll out but it's too tight and Ape has to tap! Slick submission there by Briggs!
