PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Urban Sthal (ranked 4628 p4p, 0 weight class) and Glenn Sjoren (ranked 4627 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Urban Sthal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Glenn Sjoren!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sthal gets the takedown into side control.
Sjoren is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sthal asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Sthal will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
You can see the frustration on Sjoren's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sthal decides to take the fight back to the feet.

and Sthal holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Sthal pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Sthal tries to keep at a distance but Sjoren has taken the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sjoren tries for a takedown but Sthal manages to get underhooks.

Sthal is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sjoren can't fight it off and eventually Sthal manages to take the fight to the floor. Sjoren looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sjoren pushes Sthal off and scrambles back to his feet.
Sthal doesn't manage to clinch there - Sjoren circles away.
Sthal looks for a takedown but Sjoren sprawls well.

Sjoren closes the distance and clinches.
Sjoren has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sthal is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Urban Sthal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Glenn Sjoren.

Sthal manages to break the clinch.

Sthal shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sjoren is trying to defend but Sthal finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sjoren makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sjoren.
Sthal trying to control the position from guard on top but Sjoren is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sjoren has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Sthal off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Oooooh!!! Sthal has knocked Sjoren down with a huge combo! Sthal steps away and waves a wobbly Sjoren back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Sjoren is rocked!


It looks like Glenn Sjoren has been cut.
Sjoren shoots in for a takedown but Sthal shows good takedown defense.

Sthal feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sjoren pushes Sthal off and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sjoren misses with a takedown attempt
and Sthal connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sjoren is still on wobbly legs! Can Sthal finish him?
Sthal misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sjoren seems to have recovered his senses.
Sthal displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sjoren.
Sjoren throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sthal takes the fight into the clinch.
Sthal is pushing Sjoren up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Sjoren has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Sjoren decides to pull guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sjoren lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sthal is adopting a defensive guard.
Sthal being controlled here, momentarily.
Sjoren advances position into side control!

Sjoren decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sthal to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Glenn Sjoren will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Glenn Sjoren's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A head kick misses from Sjoren.
Sthal stuffs the takedown.

Sthal darts in and clinches Sjoren up against the cage.
Sjoren throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Sthal blocks it with crossed arms.
Sjoren wants a takedown but no success here.

Sjoren drags the fight down to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sjoren has his hands on Sthal's head, controlling the position.

Sjoren pushes Sthal off and scrambles back to his feet.

Urban Sthal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Glenn Sjoren.

Sthal lands a left and a right that send Sjoren crashing to the mat, dazed. Sthal thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Sthal is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sjoren can't fight it off and eventually Sthal manages to take the fight to the floor. Sjoren looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sjoren has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sthal has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sjoren wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sthal has him pressed against the cage.

Sjoren pulls Sthal into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sjoren is on top in guard.


Sthal wants to reverse the position here. Sjoren has hold of a leg though and he's dropped back looking for a kneebar! The fighters roll across the mat but Sthal is forced to tap! Sthal looks devastated but at least his leg points in the right direction.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Glenn Sjoren!
