Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Henry (ranked 23840 p4p, 551 weight class) and Pedro Vela (ranked 4417 p4p, 440 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pedro Vela!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Vela has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Vela pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Henry darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Vela is controlling Henry 's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Vela looks like he's trying to stand up.
Vela trying to hold on to Henry 's head to control him but Henry postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Henry is just content to waste time from the top position. Vela takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Henry stands up over Vela, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Vela throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Our spies down at at Top Gun Academy inform us that Vela has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Henry controls Vela momentarily but Vela frees himself.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Vela slips nicely into half guard.

Henry is looking to control Vela's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Henry avoid being mounted?

Vela is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Vela is thwarting Henry 's attempts to control the position.

Vela working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Henry looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Vela! Submission of the night perhaps?
