PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Cleary (ranked 3624 p4p, 383 weight class) and Piotr Boryska (ranked 1649 p4p, 211 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 18 - 2, fighting out of New York, Patrick Cleary!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Piotr Boryska!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left lands for Boryska.

Cleary throws Boryska to one side and escapes!
Cleary throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Boryska on the side of the head.
Boryska lands a head kick. Cleary smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Cleary lands a big head kick that sends Boryska tumbling to the mat! Cleary takes a step backwards and waves Boryska back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Cleary fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Boryska sprawls well initially but Cleary persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cleary is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Boryska is just riding it out for now. Cleary eventually gives up the hold.

Cleary seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Boryska does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Boryska has his foot on Cleary's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cleary works his way back into a safe position though.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cleary accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cleary shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Boryska eats them both and turns towards Cleary to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

That was a close second round but I would say that Patrick Cleary will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Boryska working his ground and pound in the gym.
Cleary's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Boryska is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cleary to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cleary shrugs it off.

Well Cleary has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
