These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Southanouvong misses with a body punch
and Alexander counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Southanouvong wants to clinch up but Alexander keeps it at a distance.
Alexander swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Southanouvong darts in and clinches Alexander up against the cage.
Alexander stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Southanouvong blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Alexander lands a left hand that snaps the head of Southanouvong backwards.
Southanouvong working some nice short punches in the clinch.
I was talking to Southanouvong's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
A head punch on the inside from Alexander fails to land.
Alexander lands an uppercut.
Alexander blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Southanouvong lands a hook to the side of the head.
Alexander's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Alexander is trying to break the clinch but Southanouvong is controlling him.

Alexander breaks the clinch.
Alexander misses with a two punch combination.
Alexander gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Southanouvong tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Alexander counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

It looks like Chanthaphone Southanouvong has been cut.

Southanouvong misses with a body shot.
Southanouvong tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alexander manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Southanouvong connects with a crisp jab.
Southanouvong rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Southanouvong takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Southanouvong walks straight into a right hand from Alexander - that's dropped him! Alexander jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Southanouvong from any more punishment! Southanouvong complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
