The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duran with a lazy takedown attempt
and Duran takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Howell leaves Duran with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Howell tries to clinch but Duran moves out of range.

Duran has taken the fight to the clinch.
Howell tries to pull guard but Duran forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Duran changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Howell fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jae Howell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guillermo Duran.
Duran throws a sloppy head kick and Howell moves out of range easily.
Duran dives in and grabs Howell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Howell pushes down on Duran's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Howell counters with a nice double leg into side control. Duran won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Duran wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Howell has the hooks in. Duran is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Duran is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Howell gets his way!

Howell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
