PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gregory Peterson (ranked 2852 p4p, 353 weight class) and Sergei Ushakov (ranked 4908 p4p, 497 weight class). Peterson comes to the cage accompanied by Amon Amarth - Guardians of Asgaard. Sergei Ushakov has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gregory Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sergei Ushakov!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peterson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ushakov on his heels. He'll look to pass Ushakov's guard now, I'm sure.
Peterson trying to control but Ushakov is working from the bottom.
Ushakov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Peterson is one step ahead there.
Ushakov doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Peterson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Peterson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ushakov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Peterson to the mat! Peterson manages to get full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ushakov throws a strike but Peterson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Ushakov looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peterson won't allow Ushakov to sweep him here.

Ushakov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Peterson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Peterson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Peterson is working Ushakov over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ushakov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Peterson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Peterson wants to control from the top but Ushakov keeps moving.
Peterson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ushakov's head.

Ushakov is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Peterson is aware though and is defending well.

Peterson wants to control from the top but Ushakov keeps moving.

Ushakov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Peterson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Peterson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ushakov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Peterson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Peterson is looking for a kimura but Ushakov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Peterson to get the leverage.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Peterson enables Ushakov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Peterson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ushakov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Peterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ushakov is looking for a kimura but Peterson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ushakov to get the leverage.
Ushakov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Peterson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ushakov might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Peterson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Ushakov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Sergei Ushakov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ushakov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Peterson is staying active underneath Ushakov, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

I would just about give that final round to Sergei Ushakov.
I think Ushakov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
