Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Ramon Gracie (ranked 170 p4p, 26 weight class) and Khalid Mamedov (ranked 1643 p4p, 205 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Jiu Jitsu: Vai Finaliza!. Mamedov comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Shamhan Daldaev - Eto Kavkaz kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Ramon Gracie! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 0 losses; Khalid Mamedov!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Gracie fails with the takedown.
Gracie darts in looking for a takedown but Mamedov gets double underhooks and turns Gracie into the ropes.
Mamedov is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Gracie moves into the clinch.
Mamedov jumps guard and drags Gracie to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Mamedov is keeping the position.
Mamedov throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Mamedov working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gracie has passed into half guard!
Mamedov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie is controlling the pace.

Mamedov wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mamedov is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mamedov avoid being mounted?
Gracie trying to control the action but Mamedov is working from the bottom.
Mamedov tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.

Mamedov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
Mamedov is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Gracie is staying active.
Gracie looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Mamedov is looking to improve his position.

Mamedov tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
Mamedov is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard.

Mamedov is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gracie prevents Mamedov from improving his position.
Gracie tries to pass to full mount but Mamedov defends it.
Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mamedov is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.
Mamedov moves into full guard.

Mamedov has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though.
Gracie is pushing down on Mamedov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mamedov is fighting to maintain full guard but Gracie has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mamedov looking for a triangle here. Gracie is fighting it but it looks tight! Mamedov pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Gracie is tapping out - this one is all over!

Khalid Mamedov was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed. |
